In 2013, the Fuzhou Government hosted an international invited competition for the Strait Culture and Art Centre with the goal of strengthening the cultural image of the city and the Mawei New Town development area. PES-Architects’ winning proposal aims to offer an extraordinary experience for ordinary users by creating a new type of “cultural shopping mall”.
The cultural programmes of the Centre are complemented with commercial and family-oriented entertainment services to create a modern hybrid complex. This format is typical of the new phase of cultural building in China. Located in Mawei New Town, facing the Minjiang River, the Strait Culture and Arts Centre is about connections.
It connects cities and communities along and over the Taiwan Strait. It connects the Fuzhou Mawei New City Development and its waterways to the Minjiang River and the natural environment. And, finally, it connects people to culture. The design takes inspiration from the petals of a jasmine blossom, the city flower of Fuzhou.
The flower is manifested in the formal language and colour of the architecture. The five jasmine petal venues — opera house, concert hall, multi-functional theatre, art exhibition hall and cinema centre — are linked by a Cultural Concourse and a large roof terrace with public services and commercial and leisure facilities.
The roof terrace is accessible via two ramps from the Jasmine Gardens as well as from the Central Jasmine Plaza, providing a seamless connection from the complex to the riverfront of the Minjiang River.
On the underground level, a “shopping river” is located along the Liangcuo flood river to connect the landscape to the interiors, as well as providing a connection between the metro station and the Centre. Dividing the large complex into smaller units gives the Centre a more human scale and makes it easy for users to navigate both indoors and outdoors.
Each building has a core area — a semi-public, curved gallery that follows the curvature of the main façade — that integrates the public interior space with the landscape of the Jasmine Gardens around the building and further with the Mahangzhou island natural reserve in front of the Centre.
푸저우 해협 문화예술 센터
푸저우 해협 문화예술 센터 2013년 푸저우 정부는 도시와 마웨이(Mawei) 뉴타운 개발 지역의 문화적 이미지 강화를 목표로 해협 문화예술센터에 대한 국제 지명설계대회를 개최했다. 당선작인 PES-Architects의 제안은 새로운 유형의“문화 쇼핑몰”을 만들어 일반 사용자에게 특별한 경험을 제공하는 것을 목표로 한다.
센터의 문화 프로그램은 상업 및 가족 중심의 엔터테이먼트 서비스가 보완되어 현대적인 하이브리드 단지를 조성한다. 이러한 방식은 중국의 새로운 문화 건축 양상의 전형이다. 민강을 마주하고있는 마웨이 뉴타운에 위치한 푸저우 해협 문화예술센터는 연결성에 관한 건축물이다. 대만 해협을 따라 도시와 공동체를 연결한다.
그것은 푸저우 마웨이 신도시 개발과 수로를 민강과 자연 환경에 연결한다. 그리고 마지막으로 사람들과 문화를 연결한다. 디자인은 푸저우의 도시 꽃인 재스민 꽃잎에서 영감을 얻었다. 그 꽃은 건축적 언어와 색상으로 표현된다. 오페라 하우스, 콘서트홀, 다기능 극장, 미술 전시관 및 영화관과 같은 5개의 재스민 꽃잎의 공간과 집회 장소는 문화 공연장과 공공 서비스 및 상업 및 레저 시설이 있는 대형 옥상 테라스로 연결되어 있다.
옥상 테라스는 재스민 정원(Jasmine Gardens)과 센트럴 재스민 플라자(Central Jasmine Plaza)에서 두 개의 램프를 통해 접근 할 수 있으며 복합 단지와 민강변의 완벽한 연결을 제공한다. 지하층에는 랑쿠오(Liangcuo) 범람원을 따라“쇼핑 강(River)”이 위치하고 있어 경관을 내부 인테리어와 연결시키고 지하철역과 중심부를 연결한다.
대형 복합단지를 더 작은 단위로 나누면 단지에 보다 더 인간적인 척도(Human scale)를 적용할 수 있으며 이를 통해 사용자가 실내와 실외 모두를 쉽게 찾을 수 있도록 한다. 각 건물에는 주요 입면의 곡률을 따르는 반 공공의 영역과, 곡선형 갤러리가 있는 핵심 구역이 있으며, 건물의 재스민 가든과 건물 전면의 자연 보호 구역이 통합되어 있다.
