CCA PARKING BUILDING

This project is an elevation specialization plan for a parking-only building. This parking lot building is essentially an architecture (in a broader sense) with clear systems such as constructability or structure as a 'building' under the architectural act that aims to accommodate maximum parking with minimum construction cost using special construction methods. The way it exists within the city is no different from other buildings.

It starts with the simple idea of becoming 'a part of nature.' A scene of the camera's frame viewed horizontally from the forest was made as the facade. After comparing the green forest and the birch tree forest as alternatives, the thickness of the trees was differed to provide a feeling of looking at 'a place deep in the forest.' The overlaid metal fabric adds a sense of depth to the exterior, but also serves to hide the light entering the parking space and the view of the apartment across the road. Architectural elements are optimally applied when they meet two or more purposes. In the construction drawings, the straight lines that reflected the constructability were disappointing. In particular, I felt that the gap between the trees were made slightly wide, however, I agreed with the idea that they will mostly be viewed from an acute angle rather than the front from cars passing through the road. A bridge and passage were added for the circulation of the parking lot users that go through the forest after parking.

Most of all, what I remember the most is that it was the client's choice to willingly spend additional construction costs of around 5% of the total construction cost for the specialization plan. I am just grateful to the school for acceding with Christian values and without hesitation to the appeal that it could be a meaningful cultural contribution to the community.

중앙기독학교 주차장

이 프로젝트는 주차 전용건물 입면특화계획이다. 이 주차장 건물은 본래 특수공법을 활용하여 최소의 공사비로 주차 최대수용을 목표로 하는 건축법상 ‘공작물’로서 시공성, 구조 등 시스템이 명확한 (광역의 의미로) 건축물이다. 도시에 존재하는 방식은 여타 건축물과 다를 바 없다.

‘자연의 일부’가 된다는 단순한 생각에서 시작된다. 숲속에서 수평으로 바라보는 카메라 프레임의 한 장면을 파사드로 한다. 녹색 숲, 자작나무 숲을 대안으로 비교한 후 ‘숲 속 깊은 곳’을 바라보는 듯한 느낌을 주기 위해 나무 두께를 달리 했다. 덧입혀진 메탈 페브릭은 외피의 깊이감을 더하기도 하지만 주차 공간에 들어오는 빛과 도로 건너편 아파트 경관을 가려주는 역할도 한다. 건축 요소는 두 가지 이상의 목적에 부합할 때 최적의 적용이다. 시공 도면에서 시공성을 반영한 직선 부분들이 아쉬웠다. 특히 나무의 간격을 다소 넓게 했다는 느낌이 들었지만, 도로를 지나는 차량에서 볼 때 정면보다는 예각일 경우가 더 많다는 생각에 동의했다. 주차장 이용객이 주차한 후에 숲을 거쳐 가는 동선을 위한 다리와 회랑을 추가했다.

무엇보다 기억에 남은 것은 전체 공사비의 약 5% 추가공사비를 특화계획에 선뜻 부담하기로 한 건축주의 선택이다. 지역 사회에 의미 있는 문화적 기여일 수 있다는 호소에 기독교적 가치관으로 선뜻 응해준 학교에 감사할 따름이다.
