The project is located in Shunchang County, Nanping City in Fujian Province. Shunchang is surrounded by mountains, with Futun Stream passing through. The museum is sited in a core urban area, with its south side facing Longshan Mountain across a road and overlooking the Monument to People’s Heroes in the distance, and the north side adjoining a waterfront walking trail along Futun Stream. The plot stretches in east-west direction, with a limited depth in south-north direction. Featuring a spindle-like shape, it sits in between mountain and water.
Taking the architecture as a medium, the design team constructed a “traversable urban garden”, which opens to the city in multiple dimensions and connects the mountain and stream. Considering that the project’s site is a key node of the slow-traffic system along the stream, the architects lifted the ground floor of the building to form a large transitional space, which is available for accommodating a large volume of human flow and extends to the bank of Futun Stream. This area creates an “urban living room”, which blends into the urban setting in an open gesture. This place is enlivened by skateboarding boys, singing buskers and dancing groups. It provides a venue for the citizens’ daily life activities and cultural events, and in turn is enriched by the citizens.
To create a complete accessible rooftop, the architects arranged architectural equipment in a reasonable way. The atri um surrounded by the architecture’s external walls not only satisfies the daylighting demands for office rooms, but also meets the ventilation needs of equipment rooms. External units of the central air-conditioning system are set on appropriate outdoor positions in a concentrated way, which ensures no equipment installed on the rooftop.
An existing big tree on the site is retained and moved to the center of the “urban living room”, to absorb sunshine and create a visual highlight in the space while enhancing a sense of affinity for the architecture.
Started in 2017, the project took five years from the conception of design scheme to completion. However, the local cultural context and memories it carries have been lasted for more than a thousand years. The building is fused into local citizens’ life with a friendly and open way, evoking people’s resonance and imagination about traditional cultural space.
순창박물관
이 프로젝트는 푸젠성 난핑시 순창현에 있다. 푸툰천이 가로지르는 순창은 산으로 둘러싸여 있다. 박물관은 핵심 도시 지역에 위치하며, 남쪽은 길 건너 롱산(Longshan Mountain)을 바라보고, 저 멀리 인민영웅 기념비가 내려다보인다. 북쪽은 푸툰천을 따라 해안 산책로에 인접해 있다. 대지는 동서 방향으로 뻗어 있으며 남-북 방향의 깊이는 제한되어 있다. 가락 모양이 특징이며 산과 물 사이에 자리 잡고 있다.
건축을 매개로 삼은 디자인팀은 도시를 향해 다차원적으로 열려 산과 개울을 연결하는 ‘횡단할 수 있는 도시 정원’을 구성했다. 프로젝트의 부지가 하천을 따라 흐르는 느린 교통 시스템의 핵심 노드라는 점을 고려하여 건축가는 건물의 1층을 들어 올려 넓은 과도기적 공간을 형성했다. 이 공간은 많은 사람의 유동을 수용할 수 있으며 푸툰천의 기슭으로 이어진다. 이 부분은 열린 모습으로 도시 환경과 조화를 이루는 ‘도시 거실’을 형성하며, 스케이트보드 타는 소년, 버스킹 하는 가수, 댄서 그룹으로 활기가 넘친다. 시민의 일상생활과 문화행사의 장을 제공하고, 결과적으로 시민들에 의해 풍요로워진다.
완벽하게 접근 가능한 옥상을 만들기 위해 건축가는 합리적인 방식으로 건축 장비를 배치했다. 건축물의 외벽으로 둘러싸인 아트리움은 사무실 공간의 채광을 충족할 뿐만 아니라 장비실의 환기도 충족한다. 중앙 공조 시스템의 외부 장치는 실외에 적절한 위치에 집중적으로 설치되어 옥상에 설치하지 않도록 했다. 부지에 있던 기존의 큰 나무를 그대로 두고 ‘도시 거실’ 중앙으로 옮겨 햇빛을 흡수하고 공간의 시각적 하이라이트를 연출하는 동시에 건축물과의 친근감을 높였다.
2017년에 시작된 이 프로젝트는 설계 계획 구상부터 완료까지 5년이 걸렸다. 그러나 그 지역의 문화적 맥락과 기억은 천 년 이상 지속되어 왔다. 건물은 친근하고 열린 방식으로 지역 시민의 삶과 융합되어 전통문화 공간에 대한 사람들의 공명과 상상력을 불러일으킨다.
