ARK

The site is located in a quiet residential area of Tokyo. Upon planning the residence, their request was to keep two independent and equal private dens, and to provide an open living environment while maintaining their privacy. A courtyard and a front yard are placed on the south and the north and spaces are located symmetrically. Our intention is to provide a living environment where one can feel the air outside from everywhere in the house such as private room or living and dining room. The box-shaped volume on the second floor sticks out towards the street. The front yard is enclosed by this overhanging volume, and becomes a garden for the living and dining room. Also, the built-in furniture, the kitchen, and the staircase are gathered on both sides, and purposely planned symmetry. The name “ARK” comes from the form of the building associated with “Noa’s ark.”

대지는 도쿄의 조용한 주거지역에 위치해 있다. 건축주의 요구는 두 개의 독립적인 건물을 유지하고 그들의 사생활을 보호하면서 개방적인 생활 환경을 제공받는 것이었다. 그래서 뜰과 앞마당은 남쪽과 북쪽에 대칭적으로 배치됐다. 이들은 대칭적이다. 개인 침실이나 거실, 식당 등 집안 어디에서나 바깥 공기를 느낄 수 있도록 의도한 것이다. 2층의 상자 모양 볼륨이 거리 쪽으로 튀어나와 있는데, 앞마당은 이로 인해 거실과 식당을 위한 정원이 된다. 또한, 가구와 주방, 계단이 양쪽에 배치되어, 의도적으로 계획된 대칭을 이룬다. 이것은 교회처럼 뚜렷한 형식을 만들어낸다. ‘ARK’라는 이름은 ‘노아의 방주’와 연관된 건물의 형태에서 유래했다.
