Innovation Center for High-Performance Medical Devices

Established in 2019, the High-Performance Medical Device Innovation Center (hereinafter referred to as IHM-GBA) is a place dedicated to researching and developing high-performance medical devices, incorporating biomedical and medical technologies. The IHM-GBA established its headquarters in the region because of the development zone created where similar industries in Guangdong Province converge. The IHM-GBA headquarters include laboratories, research spaces, meeting rooms, and office areas. The building has an “X” shaped floor plan. The extensions from the “X” are used as laboratories or workspaces, while the central intersection of the “X” is designated as shared space.

 

The windows placed in various directions on each floor allow light to reach the central part of the building along with panoramic views. The corners of the inner part of the “X” shape are curved, in contrast to the outer corners that protrude, creating a dynamic outline. The building takes the form of three overlapping “X” shapes stacked vertically. In between, there are outdoor terraces serving as sky gardens. The transition from a one-story to a two-story outdoor terrace adds a dynamic and pleasant flow to the building. The lowermost part of the “X” shapes houses public facilities such as the lobby, exhibition space, and a cafe. The middle section comprises laboratories, meeting rooms, and multipurpose rooms, while the top section is dedicated to office space. In this way, the IHM-GBA headquarters presents a new type of high-density vertical building with a focus on experimentation and research.

2019년에 설립된 고성능 의료 기기 혁신센터(이하 IHM-GBA)는 고성능 의료 기기를 운영생물 및 의학 기술을 연구하고 개발하는 곳이다. IHM-GBA는 광둥성에 비슷한 산업체들이 모이는 개발지구가 마련되는 것에 따라 해당 지역에 본사를 설립했다. IHM-GBA 본사는 실험실, 연구 공간, 회의실, 업무 공간을 포함한다. 건축물은 ‘X’자형 평면을 가지고 있다. ‘X’에서 뻗어나간 부분은 실험실이나 작업 공간으로 사용되고, ‘X’에서 교차하는 중심 부분은 공용 공간으로 사용된다.

 

각 층의 여러 방향으로 놓인 창은 전망과 함께 건물의 중심부로 빛이 도달할 수 있도록 해준다. ‘X’ 형태에서 안쪽으로 들어오는 부분의 모서리는 바깥으로 튀어 나간 부분의 모서리와 달리 곡선으로 처리되어 역동적인 외곽선을 만든다. 건축물은 3개의 ‘X’자 덩어리가 수직으로 겹친 형태다. 그 사이에는 하늘 정원의 기능하는 야외 테라스가 마련되어 있으며, 1층짜리
높이에서 2층짜리 높이로 변화되는 야외 테라스는 건축물에 역동적이고 유쾌한 흐름을 만든다. ‘X’자 덩어리의 가장 아래 부분은 로비, 전시장, 카페 등이 포함된 공공시설로 구성된다. 중간 부분은 실험실, 회의실, 다목적실이 있으며, 가장 윗부분은 업무 공간으로 구성된다. 이렇게 IHM-GBA 본사는 실험·연구 중심의 공간이 고밀도의 수직 건축물로 구현된 새로운 유형을 보여준다.
