The Grave of Kamakura Yukinoshita Church

This project involves the renovation of a cemetery owned by a church. The above-ground space serves as an expansive and flat area for funeral services, while the existing underground space is repurposed as a communal burial room for caretakers. The main concept of this tomb is revealed in the light of resurrection behind the cross incorporating the sky (heaven), sunlight, and moonlight. The cross is supported horizontally by three columns. As the cross floats in mid-air, the tomb appears abstract, and the cross is not perceived at eye level by the living. On day when the sun is bright and during full moons, the cross pointing toward the sky casts a significant shadow over the tomb. The architect says, "This cross will spread the gospel to all visitors to this place and to all park visitors who come here."

이 프로젝트는 교회 소유의 무덤 리노베이션 프로젝트다. 지상은 장례식 등을 수행하기 위한 넓고 평평한 공간으로, 기존 지하 공간은 관리자가 출입하는 공동 매장실로 활용된다. 이 무덤의 주요 개념은 십자가 뒤에 있는 부활의 빛에서 드러난다. 십자가 뒤에는 하늘(천국), 태양빛, 달빛이 있다. 십자가는 세 개의 십자가 모양의 기둥으로 지지되어 수평으로 떠있다. 십자가가 공중에 수평으로 떠있기 때문에 무덤은 추상적으로 보이며 살아있는 사람의 눈높이에서 십자가로 인식되지 않는다. 낮과 보름달이 환하게 비치는 밤, 하늘을 향한 십자가는 무덤에 큰 그림자를 만든다. 건축가는 ‘이 십자가가 이곳을 방문하는 사람들과 공원을 찾는 모든 방문객에게 복음을 전할 것이라 말한다.
