일과 쉼의 균형, 창의력이 샘솟는 소통의 공간
회사는 집보다 많은 시간을 보내는 장소다. 팬데믹 이후, 회사는 단순한 ‘일터’에서 ‘공간’으로 변모하고 있다. 예전의 사무실이 정해진 자리에서 기계적으로 일하는 ‘수동적인 공간’이라면 지금의 사무실은 쉼과 소통, 창의력이 샘솟는 ‘능동적인 공간’으로 변하고 있다. 아이리스 사옥은 협업이 극대화되는 공간, 좋은 공간이 인재를 모으고 최상의 능력이 발휘되어 나온다는 건축주의 신념을 담은 프로젝트이다. 주어진 대지는 2m 정도의 레벨 차이가 있고, 전면부에 실개천을 끼고 있는 판교의 초입부에 자리 잡고 있다. 대지 진입 레벨과 이웃 상가의 보행 동선 레벨 차이를 이용하여 지하 차량 진입부와 방문객 동선을 자연스럽게 분리하였다. 직원들은 지하 주차장으로 진입하여 바로 업무 공간으로 연결될 수 있도록 하고 외부 방문객은 1층의 마당을 통해 자연스럽게 들어올 수 있도록 계획되었다.

 

다양한 도시풍경을 만드는 박스 프레임
아이리스 사옥의 테라스는 비록 작지만 층별로 테라스가 엇갈리게 적층되어 있다. 사이 공간을 통해 매스들이 돌출되어 여러 개의 박스가 매달려 있는 듯한 형상으로 계획되었다. 돌출된 덩어리의 캔틸레버 공간과 테라스는 주변 도시의 풍경을 조망할 수 있는 전망대의 역할 뿐만 아니라 업무에 지친 직원들이 자연을 느끼고 휴식을 취할 수 있는 쉼터로서 작동한다. 매스의 돌출로 내부에서 바라보는 창마다 다른 풍경을 담아낸다. 외부에서는 관찰자의 위치, 돌출된 매스의 음영에 따라 다른 표정으로 읽히게 된다. 건축가는 덩어리의 무게감을 가진 파사드의 요철을 통해 외부에 접하는 면을 최대한 확보하여 쾌적함을 만들고자 했다. 특히 두 개의 덩어리로 분리되는 가운데 중정 출입 공간은 부서별 공간을 분리하여 독립적이지만 시각적으로 연결된 공간을 만든다. 옥상 정원은 주변의 수려한 풍경들을 조망할 수 있는 휴게 공간이며, 직원들 간의 만남의 장소이자 소통의 장소로 쓰여질 것이다. 아이리스 사옥은 외부에서 인지되는 기업의 이미지와 내부에서 바라보는 사용자의 관점에서 미래 혁신 기업의 나아가야 할 모습을 보여준다. 건물의 공간 구성부터 간판, 명함, 브랜드 로고에 이르기까지 기업 이미지를 담은 토털 디자인을 구현하고자 한 프로젝트다.

Balancing Work and Rest, a Creative Communicative Space
A workplace is where one spends more time than one does at home. Post-pandemic, the concept of a company has transformed from a simple “workspace” into a “space.” Unlike past offices that mechanically operated from designated positions—a “passive space,” today's offices are evolving into an “active space,” fostering rest, communication, and creativity. The Iris Headquarters is a project embodying the owner's belief that a space maximizing collaboration, attracting talent, and showcasing top abilities can be achieved. Situated near the beginning of Pangyo with a slight level difference of around 2m and bordered by a stream in the front, the given site naturally lends itself to a project that separates underground vehicle access and visitor pathways. Employees can access the underground parking directly, connecting seamlessly to the workspaces. Visitors can enter through the courtyard on the first floor, providing a natural flow.

 

Box Frames Creating Diverse Cityscapes
While the terraces of the Iris Headquarters are modest in size, they are stacked in a staggered manner on each floor. Through the interspace, masses protrude, forming a shape reminiscent of multiple hanging boxes. The cantilevered spaces and terraces of these protruding masses not only serve as observation decks overlooking the surrounding city but also function as rest areas allowing fatigued employees to experience nature. Each window looking out from the protruded masses captures a different view. From the outside, depending on the observer's position and the shadows of the protruding masses, the building presents varying expressions. The architect aimed to maximize the outward-facing surface with the weighty facade of the masses, ensuring comfort. The central courtyard entrance, which is divided into two masses, creates separate yet visually connected spaces for different departments. The rooftop garden serves as a leisure area with picturesque views and will be used as a meeting and communication point for employees. The Iris Headquarters showcases the image of the company from an external perspective and illustrates the future vision of an innovative business from the user's viewpoint. The project implements a total design incorporating the company's image from spatial organization, signage, business cards, and brand logos.
