마드리드의 페르난도 6가 2번지(2 Fernando VI Street)에 고급 안경점을 열면서 시력 건강의 표준을 다시 정의하였다. 질감을 살린 미니멀리즘, 거친 느낌의 재료와 유기적인 형태, 스테인레스 스틸, 마드리드 산과 들판 등에서 영감을 받아 첨단 자연 공간을 만들어냈다. 이곳은 살라망카 지역이 갖고 있는 세련미와 말라사냐의 활기가 만나는 지점이기도 하다.

이 매장은 20세기 초에 세워진 건물의 1층에 위치해 있다. 두 공간을 통합하여 42m2의 크기로 되어 있으며 운영의 기능적 역할을 위해 지하 공간도 갖추고 있다. 바닥은 직사각형의 레이아웃을 가지고 있으며 바깥쪽으로 확장되어 거리를 향해 있다. 따라서 매장의 쇼케이스의 개념을 없애고 거대한 창문을 만들었다. 내부 공간의 구조는 나무 들보와 주철 기둥으로 구성하여 4m가 넘는 높이를 유지하고 있다. 외관의 기존 주철 기둥은 그대로 두어 모양은 유지하고 스테인리스 스틸 스킨으로 덮었다. 두 기둥 사이의 유리 파사드는 공간 외부와 내부 사이의 경계를 만들어 낸다.

불규칙한 석고 마감과 거친 느낌의 재료의 사용은 이 고급 안경점 인테리어 디자인의 주된 요소이다. 이번 프로젝트에서는 마드리드의 벽돌이 그대로 드러난 전통적인 색에 어두운 석류석과 가지 색상을 주로 사용하였다. 스페인의 다른 지역보다도 더 강렬한 느낌을 주는 이 색감은 중앙 고원에 있는 점토를 사용한 것으로 19세기 후반 마드리드 미학의 특징이 되었던 건축 자재를 제조할 때 사용하였던 방법이다. 또한, 모더니즘, 절충주의 등 국제적인 움직임에 영향을 받아 붉은 톤의 석류석으로 표현한 것으로서 마드리드 산맥의 들판이 가을 황혼에 물드는 모습을 연상하게 해준다.

With the opening of the new PJ. Lobster optical boutique at 2 Fernando VI Street in Madrid, the architecture and interior design studio El Departamento has redeﬁned the standards of the visual health sector. Texturized minimalism, rough materiality, organic forms, stainless steel and the color palette inspired by the ﬁelds of the Madrid mountains create a high-tech nature space. The place where the most authentic and avant-garde side of the capital converges.

The establishment is located on the ground ﬂoor of an imposing turn-of-the-century building. Thanks to the merger of two spaces, the area is equipped with 42m2 and a basement for operational functions. The rectangular layout of the ﬂoor, with its façade extended outward, faces the street. Thus, the concept of a store showcase is dissolved to create a massive indiscreet window. Inside, the ornamental structure of the space consists of wooden beams and cast-iron columns, maintaining a free height that exceeds 4 meters. The original cast iron pillars on the façade have been preserved by El Departamento, covering them with a stainless-steel skin that redeﬁnes their shape into two ﬂawless cylinders. A striking glass façade, equidistant between the two pillars, establishes the boundaries between the outside and inside of the space.

The rough materiality with a prominent irregular plaster ﬁnish becomes the protagonist of this optical boutique and an icon of interior design. On this occasion, a color palette dominated by dark garnet and an aubergine hue has been employed, paying homage to the traditional color of Madrid's exposed brick. This tone, more intense than in other regions of Spain, originates from the various clays present in the central plateau and used in the manufacture of this architectural material characteristic of Madrid's aesthetics in the late XIX century. A trend that was inﬂuenced by international movements such as modernism and eclecticism. Thus, this tribute to reddish tones, transformed into garnet, evokes the hues that tint the ﬁelds of the Madrid’s mountain range in autumnal twilights.
