Geoje Village of morning calm

Contexts and Conditions

The site is inclined along the south and the north having the view of the sea of the Oepo-ri, Geoje-si. To the north the beautiful Oepo-ri harbor is seen, and the wider view of the sea can be seen toward the south. Having a higher level at the south, the site has the different directions of the view and the facade. The width of the site is 40 ~ 50 meters, and the difference of the level along the south and the north is around 15 meters. The client wanted to build a complex of multiple detached houses where the size of a house is around 50 pyung enough for a family of four to live, and all household can enjoy the view of the sea. Once the complex is completed, the client did not want to sell houses at the moment, but want to run houses as pensions for families and sell those later.

Place on the Topography

The beginning of the design plan was how to divide the site that is inclined along the south and north direction. In order to fully employ the width of 40~50 meters, a road was placed in the center of the site and the site was divided into 11 sections. Based on the level of the road, 5 sections at the northside will be accessible at the middle of 1st floor and 2nd floor, and 5 sections at the southside will be accessed through the basement level. The last section was the section of the eastside, which was planned to be accessible through the inclined access way. Such access methods provide multi-dimensional space organization and experience. Through the method that makes the topography into the architectural shape, it was planned that the main orientations of the houses were toward the north Oepo-ri harbor, and the natural light could be fully accepted through the layout plan.

View the Scenery

The architect wished the house to be the architecture of the landscape that has the view of the sea at the north and the south. Using the difference of the level, it was planned that the view of the sea is available in all sections. The 5 sections below the center road, which has the access road at the middle of 1st and 2nd floor, will have a living room and kitchen half floor up and a family room and rooms half floor down. At the 5 sections above the center road, there will be a parking lot in the basement, a kitchen and a bedroom in the 1st floor, and a living room and a rooms in the 2nd floor. In this types the house, the view of the sea is allowable at the kitchen of 1st floor and the living room of 2nd floor.

At the last section at the eastside, the distant view of the sea is available at the all rooms. At the porch terrace in the kitchen, the living room that has 2 open sides, and the terrace and the corridor at the family room of the 2nd floor, the view of the sea is available.

Enjoy the garden

On each inclined site, a multi-dimensional garden is generated on each level. The composition of the garden is supposed to be employed with various activities, being a well-matched space with surrounding landscapes. The below sections will have an entry garden and a main room at the entry level and a courtyard at the first floor. The courtyard at the first floor is directly connected from the entry garden and is seen from the second floor, which is a three-dimensional composition.

The above sections have more diverse compositions. The piloti garden at the south, which is connected to the kitchen on the first floor, has a roof that makes various events regardless of any weather. Also, the kitchen has a garden that has the view of the sea at the north. The main room next to the kitchen has the garden at the south, which can become a great place for natural light. The most important place in this house is the large terrace connected to the living room on the 2nd floor, becoming the place where people can enjoy the seascape and the landscape, and it can interact with gardens nearby.

Create a Village

At the sloped site, individual houses gather together becoming a village. The AHCHIMGOYOMAEUL is located at the center of the complex along the horizontal line, and it was planned that various communities would be created. As an architectural aspect, it was planned that buildings adjacent to the horizontal line have multi-dimensional facades and are connected to the gardens and terraces in order for residents to interact with each other. Especially, the above sections have an open parking lot and a hobby room which induce diverse interactions among residents. Such a horizontal three dimensional effect creates a horizontal landscape and a positive image of the village associating with the surrounding environment.

맥락과 조건

거제시 외포리에 바다 조망을 지닌 남북으로 경사진 대지이다. 북쪽으로는 아름다운 외포리 항이 보이고 동쪽으로는 더 넓은 바다 조망이 가능하다. 남쪽으로 높은 경사진 땅으로 조망과 향의 방향이 서로 반대인 대지이다. 대지 폭은 40~50미터가 되고 경사는 남북방향으로 15미터 정도의 높이 차이가 난다. 건축주는 이곳에 여러 채의 단독주택 단지를 만들고자 했다. 한 채당 4인 가족이 넉넉히 살 수 있는 50평 정도의 규모를 원했고, 모든 세대가 바다를 조망할 수 있기를 원했다. 단지가 완성되면 당장 팔기보다는 가족형 펜션으로 운영하면서 나중에 매매를 고민하고 계셨다.

지형에 앉히기

남북으로 경사진 지형에 필지를 어떻게 나눌 것 인가가 계획의 출발점 이었다. 40~50미터 폭을 가용하기 위해 가운데 도로를 내면서 남북 쪽으로 나누어지는 11개 필지 구획을 하게 되었다. 도로레벨을 기준으로 북쪽의 5개 필지는 1층과 2층의 중간 레벨에서 진입이 이우러지고, 남쪽 5개 필지는 지하층에서 올라가는 진입방식이 된다. 나머지 한 필지는 동쪽에 남겨진 필지가 되어 경사진 진입로를 걸어 올라가서 집을 만나는 방식으로 구획되었다. 이러한 진입은 주택의 입체적인 공간 구성과 경험을 만들게 된다. 지형을 건축화 하는 방식으로 집의 주 방향은 북쪽 외포리 항으로 하면서 단면적 계획을 통해 자연채광을 최대한 받을 수 있게끔 계획했다.

풍경을 바라보기

북쪽과 동쪽 바다를 조망하는 풍경의 건축이고자 했다. 경사진 높이 차이를 이용하여 모든 필지에서 바다를 조망하게 계획 했다. 길을 기준으로 아래 5개 필지는 진입레벨이 1,2층의 중층으로 정해지면서 반개 층 올라가 거실과 식당을 반개 층 내려가 가족실과 방들을 배치했다. 레벨을 이용한 중층 구성은 1층과 2층 모두에서 바다를 조망하게끔 했다. 위쪽 5개 필지는 지하층에 주차를 하고 올라가면 1층에 식당과 안방, 2층에 거실과 방들을 계획했다. 이 타입은 1층식당과 2층 거실에서 바다를 조망하게 된다. 동쪽에 있는 나머지 한개 필지는 원경의 바다를 각실에서 다양하게 조망하게끔 했다. 식당은 포치형 테라스에서, 거실은 두면이 열린 펼쳐진 조망을, 2층은 가족실과 복도에서는 테라스에서 바다의 조망을 하게 된다.

마당을 누리기

경사진 각 대지는 입체적인 마당이 각 레벨에서 형성된다. 마당의 구성은 주택의 여러 행위와 함께 다양하게 쓰이면서 주변 풍경과 어울리는 공간이 된다. 아래쪽 유형은 진입레벨에서 진입마당과 안방마당이 구성되고, 1층에서 안마당이 형성된다. 1층 안마당은 진입마당에서 바로 연결이 되고 2층에서도 내려다 보이는 입체적 구성을 하고 있다.

위쪽 유형은 각 층이 더욱 다양하게 구성된다. 1층에 식당과 연계된 남쪽 필로티 마당은 지붕을 둔 마당으로 날씨와 관계 없이 다양한 이벤트가 가능하다. 또한 식당은 북쪽 바다쪽으로 조망이 되는 마당도 두고 있다. 식당 옆 안방은 남쪽으로 안방마당을 두고 있어 채광에 유리한 공간이 된다. 이집의 가장 중요한 마당은 2층 거실과 연계된 넓은 테라스로 바다의 조망과 함께 주변 자연환경 전체를 감상하고 아래층 앞 뒤 마당과 소통할 수 있는 장소가 된다.

마을을 만들기

경사진 대지에 각기 개성이 있는 집들이 모여서 마을을 이루게 된다. 아침고요마을은 단지 가운데 가로를 중심으로 여러 커뮤니티가 이루어 지도록 계획되었다. 건축에 있어서도 가로에 면한 건물의 입면은 입체적이고 여러 마당과 테라스를 접하게 하여 주민들이 서로 소통하면서 지낼 수 있게끔 구성된다. 특히 위쪽 필지의 경우는 개방된 주차장과 함께 취미실을 두어 가로 면에서 다양한 소통이 될 수 있게 된다. 이러한 가로의 입체감은 가로 풍경을 만들고 주변환경과 어울려 긍정적인 마을 이미지를 만들게 된다.
