DECKEL MACHINE FACTORY

The factory of Friedrich Deckel, a firm of machinery makers established in Munich in 1903, was so severely damaged by bombing in 1943 that the production hall had to be completely replaced. Construction of the long five-storey production building to house the workshops, transport equipment and sanitary facilities started in 1956 - 57. The machines were set up to allow them to be moved if required for changes in production flows. 

As a result, the building has no internal columns. Reinforced concrete provided the structure with the optimum stiffness to withstand the high floor loads, which are carried on prestressed concrete beams. The facade is a sculptural, grey painted reinforced concrete skeleton with window ledges in smooth, white concrete and light metal windows. The set-back roof storey was extensively glazed. The suspended, ultra-slender glass facade of the emergency exit stairwell on the west facade gives the production building a special accent. 

Construction of the two-storey production hall followed in 1958 - 59. The building is of mixed construction. While the ground floor is constructed on a compact 5x5 metre column grid, the production hall on the upper floor is a welded steel circular hollow section structure, which allows the generous width and the special feature of the building: the 60-metrespan roof. The 60° sloping outer surfaces of the main trusses were covered on the south side by aerated concrete slabs and clad with corrugated fibre cement panels. On the north side, the trusses have rubber-sealed double glazed panels which provide optimum light without glare.

The northern part of the multi-storey production building was built in 1960 - 61. The northern end of this was elegantly terminated in 1962 with a seven-storey administration building, which had a steel skeleton with a reinforced concrete core and a suspended glass facade.

1903년 독일 뮌헨에 지어진 장비생산회사인 Friedrich Deckel 공장은 1943년 폭격에 의해 심각하게 손상되어 생산홀을 완전히 바꿔야만 했다. 작업장과 운수 장비 그리고 위생시설을 포함하는 5층 규모의 생산 건물은 1956 - 57년 무렵에 공사가 시작되었다. 기계들은 생산 공정 흐름상 변경이 불가피할 경우 제거가 가능하도록 설치되었다. 

그 결과 건물 내부에 기둥이 없다. 철근콘크리트는 프리스트레스 콘크리트보가 전달하는 높은 층별 하중을 견딜 수 있도록 최적화된 강성을 제공한다. 건물의 파사드는 회색 페인트로 마감된 철근콘크리트 뼈대로 만들어진 조각적인 형태로, 부드러운 하얀 콘크리트 창턱과 가벼운 금속 창으로 이루어져 있다. 후퇴된 형태의 지붕은 광범위하게 반짝인다. 서쪽에 위치한 비상계단에 매달린 슬림한 형태의 유리 파사드는 이 생산공장에 특별함을 부여한다.

1958 - 1959년 2층 규모의 생산공장 건설이 이루어졌다. 이 건축물에는 다양한 형태의 구조가 섞였다. 1층은 5x5m 크기의 기둥 그리드에 기초하여 건설되었고, 윗층의 생산홀은 속이 빈 원통형 용접강을 사용하여 건설되어 어마어마한 너비와 60m 길이의 지붕을 갖게 되었다. 건물 남쪽에 있는 주요 트러스 구조의 60도 기울어진 외부 표면은 발포콘크리트 슬라브와 물결모양의 시멘트 패널로 덮여 있다. 북쪽 트러스에는 고무로 마무리된 이중 패널이 설치되어 눈부심 없는 최적의 빛을 제공한다. 다층 규모의 생산홀 북쪽 부분은 1960 - 61년에 지어졌다. 이곳의 북쪽 끝은 1962년 7층 규모의 행정본부 건물이 지어지면서 우아하게 마무리 되었다. 본부 건물의 철골 구조물로 설계된 코어 부분은 철근콘크리트로 지어졌으며, 매달린 형태의 유리 파사드가 사용되었다.
