Dushan School Complex

Dushan Town is located at the so called “South Gate of Guizhou” at the border with Guangxi province. The main residents in this area belong to Buyi, Miao and Shui ethnic minorities. The complex of buildings grows on the top of a long foundation stripe, 527m long and 330m wide.

The north area is pretty mountainous and mainly residential, on the west there is the highway and both east and south are arterial roads. Architects based the design of this school complex in order to create a series of courtyards with different levels of privacy, where “listen to the sound of wind and to the sound of reading” according to an old traditional Chinese proverb.

The simple severe ‘academic’ architectural style always meets these open courtyards, some more wide and open, where to practice group sports, others more quite where to study or relax, in the dormitory area. These courtyards play with the light creating different environments and iconic shadows.

Open terraces and boardwalks over the courtyards create interesting connections and different spaces for students’ different needs. Materials are clear and simple, only cement mortar and white painting on outer walls, where shadows get strong and sharp.

Considering local construction workers lack of skills and a very limited selection of local materials, architects opted for a material selection which could ensure good quality and easy to control results.

두샨 학교 복합시설

두샨 현은 “구이저우성의 남문”이라 불리는 광시 장족 자치구의 경계선에 위치하고 있다. 이 지역의 핵심 거주민은 부이족(Buyi), 먀오족(Miao) 그리고 수이족(Shui) 소수 민족이다. 이 복합 빌딩은 길이 527m, 330m 너비의 긴 줄기초 위에 세워졌다.

북쪽 지역은 꽤 산악 지대이며 주로 거주지역이고 서쪽에는 고속도로가 있고 동쪽과 남쪽에는 간선 도로가 있다. 건축가들은 다양한 수준의 프라이버시가 있는 뜰을 만들기 위해 옛 중국 속담에 의한 “바람의 소리와 읽는 소리가 들리는” 곳을 기반으로 복합 학교 건물을 디자인했다.

단순하고 엄격한‘ 학문적’ 건축 스타일은 언제나 개방된 뜰과 만나고 몇몇 뜰은 더 넓고 개방되어 단체 스포츠를 연습할 수 있고, 기숙사 지역에 있는 다른 뜰은 더 조용한 공간으로, 쉬거나 공부를 할 수 있다. 이러한 뜰은 각각의 다른 환경과 특유의 그림자가 만들어내는 빛을 사용했다.

오픈 테라스 및 뜰 위의 판자 산책로는 학생들의 다양한 요구에 맞는 흥미로운 연결점과 색다른 공간을 제공한다. 재질은 명확하고 단순하게, 외벽은 오로지 시멘트 모르타르와 흰색 페인트를 사용하여 그림자가 더욱 강렬하고 날카롭게 진다. 현지 건설 인력 기술과 매우 제한적인 현지 재료를 고려하여, 건축가들은 쉬운 관리로 결과가 나오고 좋은 품질이 보장된 재질을 택했다.
