The project was commissioned by the Chinese government in Fuzhou City, capital of Fujian province, as an ambitious people-orientated urban project. The goal is to link up two major water bodies, the West Lake and the Minjiang - the ‘mother river’ of Fuzhou through a forested and hilly mountain, Jinniushan. We seek to provide much needed connectivity and accessibility to open green spaces, providing a much needed relief from the highly urbanised and dense city of Fuzhou.
The project is the first-of-its kind elevated steel pedestrian walkway system weaving through forested areas in China, Fuzhou Forest Walkway (福州森林步道 or more intimately known as Fudao 福道) and spans over 6.3 kilometres from end to end, threading through the full breadth of Jinniushan (金牛山) and covers about 19 kilometres along its winding path. Our design consists of an intelligent all-terrain walkway system which aims to integrate with the hilly topography and the heavily forested site.
The conception of the masterplan includes 10 iconic place-making entrances in order to complement and synergise with this trans-urban eco spine. The project has two important pedestrian bridges as part of the overall walkway system.
Furthermore, the architecture sets out to capture the unique culture of Fuzhou. The first initial stage of the demonstrative walkway system was completed in May 2015. Situated at the entrance of a sports facility, the project consists of a spiral ramp structure which forms a landmark and an important entrance to the walkway system.
Along this walkway it has rain shelters and staircases that con-nect to a garden which is filled with local flora and recreational amenities. The immense scale of the project has been an eye-opener and the team at LOOK Architects has found the design challenges involved most gratifying to surmount. Embracing the philosophy of bettering lives through design, the team has aspired to spread this optimism beyond our shores, and to create a positive impact on future development of the city of Fuzhou.
푸저우 어반 커넥터
이 프로젝트는 야심찬 도시 프로젝트로, 푸젠성의 주도인 푸저우에서 중국 정부가 승인한 것이다. 목표는 숲이 우거진 산인 지뉴샨을 관통하는 푸저우의 ‘젖줄’ 웨스트 레이크와 민지앙이라는 두 개의 주요한 물줄기를 연결하는 것이다. 녹색 공간을 열기 위해 요구된 연결성과 접근성, 매우 도시화되고 밀집된 푸저우에 매우 필요한 안정을 고려하여 계획하였다.
이 프로젝트에서 중국 숲 지역인 푸저우 숲 보행로(福州森林步道, 또는 푸다오 福道로 더욱 잘 알려짐.)를 관통하는 높은 철강 보행로 시스템 직조가 최우선이다. 그리고 지뉴산의 완전한 폭을 통해 꿰어지는 끝에서 끝까지 6.3km가 넘게 걸쳐져 있고 오솔길을 따라 19km를 덮는다. 우리의 디자인은 언덕 지형과 울창한 숲으로 된 대지를 통합하는 것을 목표로 하는 모든 지역의 훌륭한 보행로 시스템을 구성한다.
종합 계획의 개념은 10개의 아이콘인 장소를 포함한다. 도시를 초월한 환경 스핀을 보충하고 시너지를 만들기 위한 입구를 만드는 프로젝트는 전반적인 통로 시스템의 일부로 두 개의 중요한 보행자 다리를 가지고 있다.
게다가 건축은 푸저우의 독특한 문화를 포착하도록 준비된다. 명시적인 통로 시스템의 첫 번째로 중요한 단계는 2015년 5월에 완성됐다. 스포츠 시설의 입구에 위치한 프로젝트는 랜드마크와 보행로 시스템에 중요한 입구를 형성하는 나선형의 램프 구조를 구성한다. 통로를 따라서 비가림시설과 지역 식물과 레크리에이션 오락시설로 가득 찬 정원을 연결하는 계단이 있다.
프로젝트의 거대한 규모는 두 눈을 뜨게 해주고 LOOK Architects 팀이 디자인에서 극복할 수 있어 매우 만족스러운 도전을 포함하고 있음을 발견했다. 디자인을 통한 더 나은 삶의 철학을 포용하면서 팀은 산기슭을 따라 낙관주의를 퍼뜨리는 것과 푸저우의 미래 개발에 긍정적인 효과를 만들기를 갈망했다.
