Recently, many universities, local governments, etc. are simultaneously installing spaces for young entrepreneurs using container boxes. Low budget, inconvenient accessibility, and standardized spaces are problems they all have in common. However, there are more fundamental limits than these physical restrictions. This is because the absolute demand of young adults who will use these spaces is low, and because they fall out of the public’s interest and are not recognized as a place in the city due to their type of start-ups and industries overlapping. The design direction began with awareness of these problems, and the concept was determined from the aspect of trying to resolve them. The first thing that had to be done in order to have the lower part of the subway bridge, an area that is alienated from the city and was not even being used, be perceived as a place of vitality and the city was to formulate a plan to secure additional budgets and reduce construction costs.

Unlike the minimal lands and container houses that are congested condensed into two columns with the usually appropriated budget, this site was several times bigger and due to this, the budget was greatly exceeded only with paving the floor and designing the exterior space. Furthermore, a minimum additional budget was required to newly transform it from the general box-shaped form in order to give a sense of awareness and pride of the space and place to citizens and young entrepreneurs using it. This matter allowed development costs to be additionally procured for the exterior space with ideas such as a children’s exhibition space for the citizens’ interest and publicity, as well as a small concert hall to perform some of Chuncheon’s various festivals (Mime Festival, etc.).

In the container space, which has the same standards, shape, ornate exterior colors and is a pavilion, their own proud space that they would want to at least invite and show their family and friends was aimed to be created for the young adults. The design and colors of the building were minimized to be able to highlight their appearances, in other words, the signboards and characteristics of their start-up spaces. In addition, in order to supplement the monotony that can be felt here, a variety of circulations from the exterior spaces to each of the spaces was provided. By changing not only the plane but also the level of each entrance, variety and novelty were aimed to be given when viewing the outside from the inside. This was to reflect the attributes of a youth start-up space where those who visit this place experience various different places.

Moreover, the maximum number of windows and open spaces within the structure and budget allowance were designed, various floors in the form of a skip floor were planned, and a place where harmony and amity can be formed was designed to the lower space of the subway, which can be used all four seasons. Although it is an isolated area and a pavilion, we hope that after the start-ups begin in all of the spaces, their characteristics are well expressed and this place becomes Chuncheon’s new urban place.

최근 많은 대학과 지자체 등에서 청년창업을 위한 공간을 컨테이너 박스를 이용하여 동시다발적으로 설치하고 있다. 적은 예산, 불편한 접근성, 그리고 정형화된 공간이 이들이 공통적으로 갖고 있는 문제점이다. 그러나 이러한 물리적인 제약보다 근본적인 한계점이 있다. 이들 공간들을 활용할 청년들의 절대적인 수요가 적고, 이들의 창업 유형과 업종의 겹침으로 인해서 일반인들의 관심에서 멀어지고, 도시에서 하나의 장소로 인식되지 못하고 있기 때문이다. 이를 해결하려는 측면에서 콘셉트가 만들어졌다. 시내에서 소외된 지역, 그것도 활용되지 않고 있었던 전철 교각 하부에 활력과 도시의 장소로 인식시키기 위하여 해야 할 첫 번째 일은 추가예산 확보와 공사비의 절감 방안을 마련하는 것 이었다.

일반적으로 책정되는 예산으로 2열로 응집된 컨테이너 하우스와 최소한의 부지와는 달리, 본 설계 부지는 몇 배나 컸고, 이로 인하여 바닥포장과 외부공간 디자인만으로도 예산이 엄청나게 초과됐다. 또한, 시민들에게 이를 사용하는 청년사업가들에게 공간과 장소에 대한 인식과 자부심을 주기 위해서 박스 형태의 일반적인 형태에서 새롭게 변모시키기 위해서는 최소한의 추가예산이 요구됐다. 이 문제는 시민들에게 관심과 홍보를 위한 어린이들의 전시 공간과, 춘천이 가진 일부를 공연할 수 있는 소공연장 계획 등의 아이디어로 외부공간 조성비를 추가로 확보 했다.

똑같은 규격, 형태, 현란한 외부 컬러, 그리고 가설건물이라는 컨테이너 공간에서 최소한 친구들과 가족들을 초대하여 보여주고 싶은 청년들에게 자랑스러운 자기들만의 공간을 만들어주고자 했다. 그들의 모습, 즉 창업공간의 간판과 특성을 살릴 수 있도록 건축물의 디자인과 컬러는 최소화했다. 그리고 여기에서 느낄 수 있는 단조로움을 보완하기 위해 외부공간에서 각 공간으로 접근하는 동선의 다양성을 부과했다. 평면뿐만 아니라 각출입구의 레벨을 변화시켜 내부에서 외부를 조망할 때 다양함과 새로움을 주고자 하였다. 이는 이곳을 방문하는 사람들이 여러 곳을 체험하는 청년창업공간의 특성을 반영하기 위함이었다. 또한, 구조와 예산이 허락되는 범위에서 최대한 많은 창문과 오픈 스페이스를 디자인했고, 스킵플로어 형태의 다양한 층수를 계획했으며, 사계절 이용 가능한 전철 하부공간에 화합과 친목이 이루어질 수 있는 장소로 설계했다. 비록 소외된 지역이고 가설건물이지만 창업이 시작된 후 모든 공간에서 그들의 특성이 잘 표현되어 이곳이 춘천의 새로운 도시의 장소가 되길 기대해본다.
