LAYERED VOID

Our perception, which has helped us recognize space and has led our movement in our everyday lives, was mainly divided by vertical elements such as walls and pillars. In this way, this "Layered Void", sections the vision of people with horizontal elements and allows us, who have mostly experienced spaces between rooms and somewhere beyond the walls, to explore the top/bottom as well as interior/exterior spaces that have never been experienced before, as if we have become dwarves or giants.

Filled and Emptied Layers and Voids. The spaces are formed through a very simple yet well-ordered filling, and through this, the actions of visitors are induced. Unlike the vertical spaces that were adjusted to our body sizes and eye-levels (spaces based on eye-levels), the spaces of small units and the deeply formed voids will lead to numerous movements (looking in, looking out, looking down, sitting, etc.). Moreover, this will stimulate an abnormal sense of space.

층층틈

일상에서 공간을 인지하고 움직임을 이끌었던 우리의 시선은 주로 벽과 기둥과 같은 수직적인 요소들에 의해 나누어졌다. 이렇듯, 방과 방 사이, 벽 너머 어딘가의 공간을 주로 경험하던 우리들에게 여기 ‘Layered Void(층층틈)’은 사람들의 시선을 수평적인 요소들로 잘게 나누어, 마치 소인 또는 거인이 된 듯, 경험해보지 않았던 위/아래, 내/외부의 공간을 탐험하게 한다.

채우고, 비워낸 층과 틈. 아주 단순하면서도 질서정연한 채움을 통해 공간을 구성하고, 이를 통해 관람객의 행위를 유발한다. 우리 신체 치수와 눈높이에 맞추어진 수직적인 공간(눈높이에 의한 공간)과 다르게, 낮은 단위의 공간과 깊게 형성된 틈은 여러 가지 움직임(들여보기, 내다보기, 낮춰보기, 앉기 등)으로 연결된다. 더불어 이는 비일상적인 공간감을 자극한다.
