An architectural symbol as a literary banner   Soweol Kyoungam Literary Memorial Hall is not only a tourist attraction of Jeung-pyeong but also a place where informs the birth of new literature shrine. A literary memorial hall which has built on the 600 pyeong site around Hwaseong-ri, Doan-myeon, Jeungpyeong-gun, is surrounded by Yeonjegeun park, Doan-myeon multi-purpose hall, elementary school, and a forest, so it’s located on the place with an excellent surrounding environment.

A literary memorial hall realizes a literary meeting of a national poet Kim Soweol, and a board president Kyoungam Lee cheolho with an architectural solution. An architectural characteristic as a literary memorial hall reflects those two writers’ disposition. The openness of the frontal yard and architectural mass have given a bright and strong image with monumental dignity, and a garden on the back side harmoniously contrasts with a lyrical rhythm. Especially, the back yard does not only function as a rest zone but there is also a space for small outdoor gatherings for the visitors.

Using of event spaces, “cooper hand print” yard, “Writer’s time capsule” reclamation area securement etc., are also available.

A Soweol exhibition hall, which could be entered from the 1st floor lobby, and Soweol Kyoungam Literary Memorial Hall are connected with Kyoungam exhibition hall via 2nd floor’s private interior staircase. A Soweol exhibition hall encounters with a poet’s bust. Inside an exhibition hall, there’s a small media room for watching videos. A Kyoungam exhibition hall is a memorial hall which classifies author’s activities according to era. Especially, the ceilings are in 2 different heights so that they could not only direct various exhibition functions but also create psychologic tension with space’s volume variation. Especially an exhibition with a high ceiling installed a tall window so indirect day light flows in along with wall’s volume. Except for the exhibition hall on a main flow line, there are a book cafe on the 1st floor, and a media exhibition hall on the 2nd floor. A media exhibition hall is not only utilized as a various planned exhibition, but also as a seminar hall or a small assembly hall. 3rd floor is a preparatory space for the future literary broadcasting station.

For the symbolism as a literary memorial hall, an exposed mass concrete, just as it is has used as a building’s design element for material’s purity. A texture of exposed mass concrete, which reveals an aesthetic expression, predominates the entire mass. Bricks used on the backside highlights building’s serious atmosphere, and makes a contrast with the frontal side. The frontal black perforated panel metaphors writer’s creation note in a figure like a poetic diction’s primitive symbol. We’d like to convey Literary Memorial Hall’s literary signifier by using diverse textures, and colors as an architectural expression medium.

소월·경암 문학예술기념관

문학적 기표로서의 건축적 상징물   소월·경암 문학예술기념관은 증평의 명소가 될 뿐만 아니라, 새로운 문학성지의 탄생을 알리는 곳이다. 증평군 도안면 화성리 일대 약 600평 부지에 세워진 문학관은 연제근 공원, 도안면 다목적회관, 초등학교, 숲으로 둘러 쌓여있어, 주변 환경의 여건이 뛰어난 곳에 입지했다.

문학관은 민족시인 김소월과 경암 이철호 이사장의 문학적 만남이 건축적 해법으로 구현되어 있다. 문학관으로서의 건축적 특징은 두 문학가의 기질이 반영됐다. 전면 마당의 개방감과 건축 매스(MASS)는 기념비적인 중후함으로 밝고 견고한 이미지가 부여됐으며, 후면의 정원은 서정성의 리듬을 조화롭게 대비된다. 특히, 후정은 휴게 공간의 기능뿐만 아니라 관람자들의 소규모 야외 모임을 위한 공간이 마련되어 있다. “황동 핸드프린트” 마당과 “문인 타임캡슐” 매립 영역 확보 등 이벤트 공간의 사용도 가능하다.

소월·경암 문학예술기념관은 1층 로비에서 진입하는 소월전시실과 2층에 내부 전용 계단으로 연결되어 경암전시실과 연속된다. 소월전시관은 시인의 흉상과 마주친다. 전시실 안에는 영상물을 감상할 수 있는 작은 미디어실도 마련되어 있다. 경암전시실은 작가의 시대별 활동을 구분한 기념관이다. 특히, 천정고가 2개 층의 높이로 다양한 전시 기능의 연출뿐만 아니라 공간의 체적 변화로 심리적 긴장감을 형성한다. 천장고가 높은 전시실은 고창을 설치하여 벽체면을 따라 간접 주광이 유입된다. 주동선 상의 전시관 이외에 1층에는 북카페와 2층에는 미디어 전시실이 나타난다. 미디어 전시실은 다양한 기획전시뿐만 아니라, 세미나실 또는 소강당 등으로 활용된다. 3층은 향후 문학 방송국을 개설할 예비공간이다.

문학관으로서의 상징성은 건축물의 디자인 요소로 재료의 순수성을 있는 그대로의 노출콘크리트가 사용됐다. 미학적인 표현이 드러나는 노출콘크리트의 질감이 전체 매스의 주조를 이룬다. 배면에 사용된 벽돌은 건물의 중후한 느낌을 살려주며, 정면과의 차이점을 두었다. 전면 검은색 타공판은 시어의 원초적 기호같은 모습으로 문학가의 창작 노트를 은유한다. 문학관의 문학적 기표를 건축 표현의 매개로 다양한 질감과 색감을 사용하여 전달하고자 했다.
