A FACADE LIKE A PLEATED CINEMA SCREEN

Given the urban setting of this project, the main facade on the Avenue du General Leclerc plays a vital role: it is virtually right above the Alesia metro exit, giving onto the generously broad pavement. The maximum authorised height on this section of the street is 21 metres, with a maximum width of 25 metres; thereby it is more than 500m2 of facade that stands over this very visible section of the Avenue.

The facade is broken down into into a dozen vertical strips, like ribbons. Each strip supports several facets, alternately orientated upwards or downwards, as if folded.

In the central area, these great pleats are made of glass and covered in regularly spaced LED modules, forming a large, animated grid. Towards the edges of the facade, the large pleats are opaque and formed of metal cladding, sometimes covered in the same structure of LEDs, sometimes simply folded to maintain the rhythm.

These pleats discretely integrate the constraints imposed by the urban planners: one is not aware of a lack of continuity between the upper and lower sections of the facade, although fragmented by successive recesses. Indeed the project is formed of 12 vertical ribbons, each following its own rhythm of folds.

These ribbons can function either independently of one another, each showing a different picture from its neighbours, or as a whole, showing one single picture across all the LEDs, thus greatly increasing the number of different possibilities.

The bottom section in each ribbon folds upwards to form surfaces that are almost horizontal, creating a vast canopy that overhangs the pavement by some 3 metres. These panels are also covered in LEDs, providing the public with different images, which are this time almost within reaching distance.

This gives the public the sensation of walking into the picture as they go into the building.

The facade is principally viewed from outside, but it also constitutes an important feature on the inside: the various theatre entrances, the foyers, walkways and large areas of tiered seating all showcase the facade, providing the chance to discover its internal face.

And this facade is just as beautiful from the inside: comprised of large glazed panels protected by the grid of LEDs, it provides views of the Avenue down below, the church opposite, and also the sophisticated workmanship of the modules of LEDs affi xed at regular intervals to the grid of parallel metal supports. At dusk, the luminosity of the LEDs is perceptible from the inside, illuminating the foyers and circulation spaces with the diffuse colours of the animated images.

The dense arrangement of LED modules also serves as sunscreen for this sunny facade. Solar as well as thermal gain (as the sunscreen is positioned on the outside) are thus reduced.

The Rue d’Alesia facade also plays an important role in the project as it too provides access into the cinema, which was not previously the case. The aim is to make these cinemas more visible and welcoming to the neighbourhood, so the Rue d’Alesia entrance is vital. This facade uses the same themes established on the Avenue du General Leclerc, but much more discretely: its reduced scale allows for a small surface made up of a few pleated ribbons, but without LEDs.

주름진 영화관 스크린 같은 건축물

이 프로젝트의 도시 환경을 고려해보면, 알레시아(Alesia) 지하철 출구의 거의 바로 위 넓은 인도 위에 위치한 Avenue du General Leclerc의 주요 건축물은 아주 중요한 역할을 한다. 이 길의 최대 허용 높이가 21m이며 최대 너비는 25m이므로 이 길에서도 굉장히 눈에 띄는 이 건축물의 크기는 500㎡ 이상이 된다.

이 건축물은 마치 리본처럼 생긴 열두개의 수직 조각으로 나뉘어져 있다. 각 조각은 접힌 모양과 같이 교대로 위아래를 향하는 각각의 면을 받치고 있다.

중심부에 있는 큰 주름들은 유리로 만들어졌으며 규칙적으로 간격을 둔 LED 모듈로 덮여 있어 커다랗고 생동적인 격자무늬를 형성하고 있다. 정면의 가장자리를 향할수록 커다란 주름들은 불투명해지며 금속 피복재로 만들어져 있는데, 때로는 LED 와 같은 구조로 덮여있거나 리듬을 유지하기 위해 단순하게 접혀있기도 한다.

이러한 주름들은 도시 계획자들이 부여한 제약을 개별적으로 통합하는 역할을 한다: 하나는 연이은 파손에 의해 파괴됐음에도 불구하고 외관의 상부와 하부의 연속성의 결여가 인지되 않는다. 실제로 이 프로젝트는 12개의 수직적인 리본으로 구성되어 있으며 각각의 리본은 각자 주름의 리듬을 따른다.

이 리본들은 주위에 있는 것들과 다른 그림을 표시함으로써 각각 독립적으로 작용할 수 있으며, 모든 LED에 걸쳐 하나의 그림을 보여주어 전체적으로도 작용할 수 있다. 이는 다른 많은 가능성들을 크게 향상시킨다.

각 리본의 하단 부분은 평평한 표면을 만들기 위해 위쪽으로 접히는데 이는 인도 쪽으로 3m 정도 돌출된 캐노피를 형성한다. 이 패널들 또한 LED에 덮여있으며 이번에는 대중들에게 도달 거리 내에 있는 다양한 이미지들을 제공한다.

이것은 대중들에게 그들이 건물 안으로 들어갈 때마다 그림 안으로 들어가는 듯한 느낌을 준다. 이 건축물은 주로 외부에서 보게 되어있지만 내부에도 중요한 장소들이 있다. 각종 극장 입구들, 로비, 통로들과 줄지어 배열된 좌석의 넓은 장소들이 선보이고 있으며 내부를 볼 수 있는 기회를 제공한다.

그리고 이 건축물은 내부 또한 아름답다. LED 그리드로 보호된 커다란 유리 패널들은 바로 아래에 있는 길의 경치와 반대편의 교회, 그리고 일정한 간격으로 평행한 금속 받침대에 부착된 LED 모듈의 정교한 제작 기술을 보여준다. 해질 무렵에는 LED의 광도가 내부에서 감지되어 로비와 통로공간에 움직이는 이미지들을 확산된 색상으로 비춘다

LED 모듈의 조밀한 배열은 눈부신 건축물을 위한 자외선 차단 역할을 하기도 한다. 태양열 뿐만 아니라 내부 열 증가가 (태양광 차단제가 외부에 위치함으로써) 감소된다.

건축물 Rue d’ Alesia의 파사드는 이전에는 없던 영화에 대한 접근을 가능하게 하여 프로젝트에서 중요한 역할을 한다. 영화관들을 눈에 더 잘 띄게 하고 인근 지역을 환영하는 것이 목표이므로, Rue d’Alesia 의 입구는 매우 중요하다. 이 건축물은 General Leclerc 거리에 설립 된 것과 동일한 테마를 갖고 있지만 더욱 이산적이다. 그 규모가 축소되어 LED없이 소수의 주름진 리본들로만 구성된 작은 표면이 가능하였던 것이다.
