ASTK Factory Office Building Renovation

The ASTK factory and company building are the company that is one of the top three companies which perform the production and maintenance of the airplane parts in South Korea. The ASTK1 factory is the oldest headquarter building among the ASTK buildings, and it was decided to remodel the building for boosting the equity and morale of employees. By designing the building in the same manner of the spatial concept of the previously built ASTK building, they tried to construct a clear identity of the company.

This building is the project that extends the old building after the completion of the building of the subsidiary ASTK company building. Therefore, we decided to design the building using the same concept of the old building. We cleaned the old facade and the interior, tried to build the new building with a small budget, and tried to build a similar type building. Without changing the structure of the building, we created the new facade using polycarbonate having the shape of airplane’s wings.

And we tried to make different atmosphere day and night using lighting. In order to keep the trees planted at the beginning of the existing building, we adopted a concept of a garden for the trees to grow up on the spot. By making a courtyard open to the 2nd floor roof in the interior, narrow and high space was created. The existing main stairway that has the shape of a straight line and is connected to the 3rd floor was transformed into round shape playing a role of a spatial object. Also, at the end of the stairway, we put a strong symbolism by making the logo of the ASTK using stained glass.

In order to inspire the energy of employees exhausted by long hours of working, an open space of staff  restaurant and cafeteria, library, and fitness center were arranged. To divide the functions of the spaces the swing doors and round bookshelves for partition were placed, which makes open sight and the separation of space available. On the second floor of office area, the exhibition hall and meeting rooms were arranged functionally. At the void space between 1st and 2nd floors, the slogan of the company was put using polycarbonate to show the symbolic significance. The ASTK1 factory is small, though it will continue the basic spirit of the AST and be reborn the careful space taking care of employees.

아스트1공장 리노베이션

아스트 공장과 사옥은 대한민국에서 3대로 꼽히는 비행기 부품 생산, 조립 회사이다. ASTK1공장은 아스트 사옥 중 가장 오래된 본사 사옥으로, 직원들의 형평성과 사기 진작을 위해 리모델링을 진행하기로 했다. 이전에 지어진 ASTK의 공간 콘셉트와 같은 맥락으로 설계해 회사의 아이덴티티를 명확히 구축하기 위해 노력했다. 이 건물은 새로 지은 아스트 계열사 사옥 완성 후에 예전 사옥을 다시 증축하여 설계하는 프로젝트였다. 그래서 그 전에 우리가 설계했던 옛 사옥과 같은 콘셉트를 적용하여 설계하기로 했다. 오래된 입면과 내부를 다시 정리하고, 적은 예산으로 새로운 건물을 만들기 위해 노력했으며, 같은 맥락의 건물을 만들기 위해 노력했다. 구조를 바꾸지 않으면서, 입면에는 비행기 날개 형태의 폴리 카보네이트를 사용하여 새로운 입면들 만들었다.

그리고 빛과 조명을 이용하여 낮과 밤이 확연하게 다른 분위기를 연출하려고 노력했다. 기존의 사옥과 공장을 만들 때 심어두었던 나무를 그대로 유지할 수 있도록 정원의 개념을 도입해 기존의 소나무가 그 자리에서 그대로 자라날 수 있도록 했다. 실내에는 2층 옥상까지 뚫린 중정을 만들어 좁고 높은 공간을 연출했다. 3층까지 이어지는 직선 형태의 기존 중앙 계단을 라운드 형태로 변경하여 공간의 중심 오브제 역할을 하도록 했다. 또, 계단 끝에 스테인드글라스로 ASTK 로고를 표기해 강한 상징성을 부여했다. 장시간 작업에 지친 직원들에게 에너지를 불어넣기 위해 1층에는 열린 공간 형태의 직원 식당과 카페테리아, 도서관과 헬스장을 배치했다. 각 공간의 기능을 분리하기 위해 스윙도어와 칸막이용 라운드 책장을 배치해 시선은 열려있지만 각 공간을 분리할 수 있도록 했다. 2층 사무공간은 전시홀과 회의공간을 기능적으로 배치하였으며 1층과 2층이 뚫린 공간에는 폴리카보네이트를 이용해 회사의 구호를 구현해 상징적인 의미를 전달한다. ASTK1공장은 작은 규모의 공간이지만 AST의 기본정신을 이어 나갈 것이며 직원들을 배려하는 세심한 공간으로 재탄생하게 되었다.
