House in Ouji

The house for the couple who is a game creator and a broadcasting writer. The couple have no boundaries between work and private life, and they requested the multipurpose space to work, create something, invite acquaintances sometimes and to have events and workshops. The site is located at the end of the private road in the densification residential area, along which the size of the buildings and the width of the road gradually scales down from the station.

A lot of dead-end streets, which erode the block by densification, are seen in the neighborhood. Frontal road of this site is also a dead-end and it is, as it were, small community space, which is used only by the inhabitants of the five houses facing here or persons with the business. I thought I’d like to build a new relationship with the surroundings by taking the atmosphere of this private road into the house. At first, I laid two different volume in parallel. One of them is a static space filled with the minimum necessary rooms for daily life (“Uchi”). The other is an open dynamic space on the extension of the private road.

This is an externalized interior space with strong continuity and an intermediate space between the private road and “Uchi”. I defined this space as “Uchiniwa”. I took care that the private road of the north side would not become dark when this house had been built. So I draw the private road and the neighbor’s garden into the house visually through the openings in northern and southern side of “Uchiniwa” and I kept line of sight from the northern private road to southern neighbor’s garden via “Uchiniwa”. I designed a slit-shaped opening on the east side towardthe gap between the houses. Through the opening, we can see the cluttered pipelines, meters, water heaters and outdoor units, which are another result of densification.

Those are residential area’s unconscious rear view and we can see the road beyond them. “Uchiniwa” is the space with mixing public and private character. It is the public space as the extension of the private road and surrounding residential environmental and it attracts acquaintances and neighbors at the events or workshops. And, at the same time, it is also the private space in the house. I located a half-turn stair with a wider landing in “Uchiniwa” and intended to interlace the usual life and the surrounding environment when moving from “Uchi” to other room through “Uchiniwa”.

Though this is a small two-story house, I thought to amplify the sense of physical and psychological distance between “Uchiniwa” and “Uchi” by narrowing down the amount of light and the scale and by shifting the floor level of “Uchi” composed of the skip floor. I didn’t try to design an alternative relationship such as the “cutting” or “connecting” between a city and the house. But by layering the public and the private space in the house, I tried to design a gradually shifting relationship not only such as connecting the city the private road or but also such as section connecting “Uchiniwa” and “Uchi”.

이 집은 게임 제작자와 방송 작가인 커플을 위한 집이다. 이들은 일과 개인 생활 사이 경계가 없이 일하고, 무언가를 창작하고, 가끔 지인을 초대하여 이벤트나 워크숍을 열 수 있는 다목적 공간을 원했다. 대지는 고밀화 주택 단지에 있는 개인소유 도로 끝에, 역에서부터 도로 너비와 빌딩의 규모가 서서히 작아지는 곳에 위치한다. 주위에는 고밀화로 인해 단지를 막는 막다른 골목이 많이 보인다. 대지의 전면도로 또한 막다른 골목이며 이것은 마치 작은 공용 공간인 것 마냥 사업차 방문한 사람이나 이곳을 바라보고 있는 다섯 채의 집의 주민들만 사용하고 있다. 건축가는 이 개인 소유 도로의 분위기를 집안으로 들여 주변 환경과 새로운 관계를 맺은 집을 짓고자 했다. 처음에는 두 개의

매스를 평행으로 놓았다.

그 중“ 내부”는 일상생활에 필요한 최소한의 방으로 채워진 정적인 공간이다. 다른 하나는 개인소유 도로에 놓인 개방되고 역동적인 공간이다. 이것은 강한 연속성을 지닌 외부화 된 실내 공간이고 도로와 내부를 중재하는 공간이다. 이 공간을 “안마당”이라고 정했다. 이 집이 지어질 당시 개인 도로의 북쪽이 어두워지지 않도록 신경 썼다. 그래서 안마당의 북쪽과 남쪽의 개구부를 통해 개인 도로와 이웃집 정원을 시각적으로 집안에 들여놓았고, 안마당을 통해 시선이 향하는 방향을 유지했다. 집들 사이 틈이 있는 동쪽에 좁고 기다란 형태의 그 개구부를 통해 뒤죽박죽인 파이프라인, 계량기, 온수기 그리고 실외기를 볼 수 있는데, 이는 또 다른 고밀화의 결과다.

이 주택지의 무의식적인 뒷면 그 너머로 도로가 보인다. 안마당은 공용과 개인 특징이 섞인 공간이다. 그것은 개인소유 도로와 주위 주택 환경의 확장된 공용 공간으로 이벤트와 워크숍에 지인과 이웃들을 끌어들인다. 게다가 동시에 집안의 개인 공간이기도 하다. 넓은 참이 있는 반 회전 계단을 안마당에 배치하고 이를 통해 내부에서 다른 방으로 옮길 때 일상과 주위환경을 엮으려고 했다. 이 작은 이층집을 통해 안마당과 내부의 물리적 거리와 심리적 거리를 증폭시키기 위해 내부 층 레벨을 스킵 플로어로 이동시켜 빛의 양과 크기를 줄였다. 나는 도시와 집 사이에 “절단” 혹은 “연결”과 같은 다른 관계를 만들지 않았다. 하지만 집안에 공용 공간과 개인 공간을 겹침으로써 그저 도시와 개인소유 도로를 연결하는 뿐만 아니라 안마당과 내부를 연결하는 것과 같은 점진적인 변화 관계를 설계하려 했다.
