Phoenix breaks through the clouds and dances in the sky

The project is located in Geographic Information Town, south of Deqing County, China. It is, specifically, between Tashan No.2 Street and Tashan No.3 Street, and across Quyuan Road. Built on an island on The Phoenix Lake, the grand architecture is a window for the world to see Deqing County. The building’s above-ground area is 42,556m2, with a main structure of three floors and a height of 23.95m, and the underground construction area is 29,507m2. The project takes on an ellipsoid shape, which is consistent with the form of the island where it is located. In this way, the overall architecture matches well with the site environment, and perfectly integrates into Deqing County Geographic Information Town with a posture of “harmony in diversity”. Since Quyuan Road passes through the land, the building was divided into two parts, with its secondary entrance spaces along the road. In the east and west hemispheres, the main entrances of the conference center and the grand theatre were set up separately, which face the lake and are coordinated with the surroundings. The east hemisphere of the architecture consists of the main venue for 2,000 people, a multi-functional hall for 500 people, a small lecture hall for 300 people and several conference rooms, while west hemisphere contains a grand theater for 1,000 people, a cinema and so on. All the internal halls can be connected to each other through corridors and shared lobbies. The design used the imagery of a phoenix that breaks through the clouds and dances in the sky. The overall architecture looks like a white glimmering cloud, lying silently on The Phoenix Lake and integrating with the surrounding environment.

The three-dimensional and hollowed-out metal roof, looks like a “flying phoenix” that spreads the wings and soars highly, presenting a poetic picture. Viewing the entire building from a distance, the quietness of clouds and “the flying of the phoenix” form a distinct contrast, full of sense of drama. With the glimmering and flowing “cloud” highlighting the lightness and flexibility of “the phoenix”, the whole building indicates the touching moment that the phoenix flies through the clouds, and predicts the promising future of Geographical Information Town.

Featuring simple structural forms, the interior space was endowed with an artistic conception of “woods and shades of bamboos  earby, mountains and flowing waters at distance” through the emphasis of space, the collocation of materials, the introduction of  evices and the appropriate integration of local elements. It organically combines the mountains, waters, clouds and trees of Deqing County, vividly presenting the geographical features of the beautiful landscape. Taking the creation of pastoral landscape in the County as the starting point, the design aims to indicate the local geographical features beyond formal level, through flexible outdoor and indoor spaces, and the dynamic exterior shape of the architecture. It is an urban public space, where every guest, from the world, can feel the modern and natural artistic conception, with thought waves and emotional resonance being inspired.

구름을 뚫고 나와 하늘에서 춤을 추는 불사조

이 프로젝트는 중국 더칭 남쪽의 지리정보타운에 자리한다. 자세한 위치는 Tashan 2번가와 3번가 사이, 그리고 Quyuan 건너편이다. 피닉스 호수 가운데 있는 섬에 웅장하게 자리 잡은 건축물은 더칭을 한 눈에 볼 수 있는 창문으로 표현할 수 있다. 건물의 지상부는 42,556㎡이며, 3층의 메인 구조물은 높이가 23.95m, 지하 면적은 29,507㎡다. 건물의 형태는 타원형이며, 섬의 형태와 일치한다. 건물은 대지 환경과 잘 어우러지며 더칭 현 지리정보타운과 “다양성 안의 조화”라는 취지에 완벽하게 부합된다. Quyuan 도로가 대지를 통과하기 때문에 건물은 도로를 따라 보조입구 공간과 2개로 분리되어 있다. 동서 반구에서는 컨퍼런스 센터와 그랜드 극장의 주요 출입구가 각각 별도로 설치되어, 호수와 마주하며 주변과 조화를 이룬다. 건축물의 동 반구는 2,000명을 수용할 수 있는 메인 공간이 있으며, 500명을 위한 다기능홀, 300명을 수용할 수 있는 작은 강의실, 그리고 여러 회의실로 구성되어 있다. 반면에 서 반구에는 1,000명을 수용할 수 있는 그랜드 극장, 영화관 등으로 구성되어 있다. 모든 내부 홀은 복도와 로비를 통해 서로 연결된다. 이 디자인은 구름을 뚫고 나와 하늘에서 춤을 추는 불사조의 이미지를 차용했다. 건축물은 피닉스 호수(Phoenix Lake)에 조용히 누워서 주변 환경과 조화를 이루는 반짝거리는 흰색 구름처럼 보이기도 한다.

입체적이고 빈틈 없는 금속 지붕은 날개를 펼치고 높게 치솟는 “날아오르는 불사조”와 같아 보이며 시적인 그림을 연출한다. 거리를 두고 전체 건물을 보면, 구름의 조용함과 “날아가는 불사조”는 명백한 대조를 이루면서 극적인 감각으로 가득 차 있는 것을 볼 수 있다. “불사조”의 가벼움과 유연성을 강조하는 희미하고 흘러가는 “구름”의 이미지로 건물은 불사조가 구름과 함께 날아다니는 감동적인 순간을 표현하면서 지리정보타운의 약속된 미래를 예측한다.

단순한 구조적 형태를 가진 실내 공간은 공간의 강조, 재료의 배치, 장비들의 도입과 지역 요소의 적절한 통합을 통해 “인근의 대나무 숲과 그늘, 산과 멀리 흐르는 물”이라는 예술적 개념도 포함시켰다. 건축물은 더칭의 산, 물, 구름, 나무를 유기적으로 결합하여 아름다운 풍경의 지형적 특징들을 생생하게 보여준다. 디자인의 출발점은 더칭에 목가적인 경관을 만들어내는 것이었다. 또한, 유연한 옥외와 실내 공간의 외부 모양을 통해 일반적인 차원을 넘어선 지리적 특징을 표현해내고자 한다. 이곳은 모든 사람들이 사상의 파동과 감정적인 공명 등의 영감을 받아 현대적이고 자연적인 예술 개념을 곳곳에서 느낄 수 있는 도시의 공공 공간이다.
