BERLIN'S MICHELBERGER HOTEL

Started in 2009, the Michelberger has garnered a reputation for its unusually inclusive approach to hospitality, set-up more like a communal house than a traditional hotel. As the hotel has evolved, Jonathan Tuckey Design has created a new floor of rooms that act as a calm refuge from the hustle and bustle of Berlin city life outside its doors.

The building interior is made up of a single open-plan floor plate built around a glazed brick courtyard and traversed by a grid of curved concrete beams. The brick courtyard that sits at the heart of the hotel is expressed in the rooms by a muted palette of materials; greys, creams browns and greens. Inhabiting the rooms, a range of fine furniture; desks, tables, chairs, beds, and benches have been designed by the practice. A proportion of these have been made from Panzerholz, a sheet timber material formed under high compression. The natural resins secreted by the wood during manufacture, give the material an aged and lasting appearance.

베를린의 미첼베르거 호텔

2009년에 문을 연 미첼베르거 호텔은 접대에 대한 이례적인 접근으로 명성을 얻었으며, 전통적인 호텔이라기 보다는 공동 주택처럼 꾸며져 있다. 호텔이 발전함에 따라 조나단 터키 디자인은 베를린 도시 생활의 혼잡에서 벗어날 수 있는 조용한 피난처 역할을 하는 새로운 공간을 만들었다.

건물 내부는 오지벽돌로 된 뜰 주위에 곡선 콘크리트 빔의 격자가 가로지르는 개방형 평면으로 구성된다. 호텔 중심부의 벽돌로 된 뜰에 있는 회색, 크림색, 갈색, 녹색과 같은 다양한 재료들은 방 안에서도 표현된다. 객실에는 책상, 테이블, 의자, 침대, 벤치 등과 같은 다양하고 훌륭한 가구가 있다. 이것들 중 일부는 높은 압착 하에 형성된 목재 합판인 탱크우드(Panzerholz)로 만들어졌다. 목재의 천연수지는 오래도록 지속하는 느낌을 준다.
