The situation was unique: Chevallier Architectes took on this project when it was on the verge of being abandoned. There were many constraints, but the Chevallier Architectes team studied the file and proposed solutions that would make it possible to successfully complete the construction, including optimization of the space.

Features

The site is very close to the boundary of a protected wilderness, making the building’s orientation and structure key constraints for the team to study and solve. Working in the heart of a large and unavoidable green space, we were able to give the cottage its proper place, including a spectacular view of three iconic peaks, the two Drus and the Aiguille Verte.

The building’s main structure features a classic design, in sharp contrast with its modern addition, which is characterized by generous windows and impressive volumes.

Materials and spatial organization

The materials were chosen and sourced through careful research. For example, the many wood construction elements were recycled, requiring significant colorimetry work to ensure suitably consistent tones.

The mezzanine, suspended above the lounge, is an example of a solution implemented to fulfill one of the owner’s desires – without compromising the view of the Aiguilles de Chamonix mountains. In the same spirit, the architect wanted it to be possible to see the Aiguille Verte and the Drus from the kitchen, or even from the swimming pool in the basement. Accordingly, one of the kitchen walls is a glass panel facing the Whymper Couloir, while the pool features a window well affording a view of the spectacular scenery. The stone sub-basement supports the cottage and unifies its volumes.

Chevallier Architectes는 프로젝트가 엎어질 위기에 있는 독특한 상황일때 이 프로젝트를 수락했다. 많은 어려움들이 존재했었지만 Chevallier Architectes 팀은 연구에 연구를 거듭하고 공간의 최적화를 포함하며 시공상의 문제점을 성공적으로 풀어낼 수 있는 해결책을 제시했다.

특징
대지는 자연보호구역 경계에 아주 가까이 위치하여 건축팀이 건물의 방향과 건축적 제약들을 연구하고 해결하게 만들었다. 거대하고 피할 수 없는 숲 중앙에서 작업하며 작은 집에 알맞은 장소와 3개의 산봉우리(두 개의 Drus와 Aiguille Verte)가 보이는 웅장한 전경을 제공할 수 있었다.
건축물의 구조적 주요 특징은 고전적인 디자인으로 넉넉한 창과 인상적인 크기로 대변되는 현대적인 부분이 선명한 대비를 이루고 있다.

재료와 공간 구성
건축 재료는 세심한 연구를 통하여 선택되었다. 예를 들어 수 많은 목재들이 재사용되었고 이는 건축물 전체의 통일성 있는 색감을 유지하기 위해 많은 색측정을 하게 했다.
라운지 위에 위치한 중이층은 Aiguilles de Chamonix 산의 전경을 살려달라는 건축주의 요구사항을 해결하기 위한 해결책의 한 예이다. 같은 방법으로 건축가는 부엌이나 지하 수영장에서 Aiguille Verte and the Drus를 볼 수 있기를 원했다. 따라서 Whymper Couloir를 마주보고 있는 부엌의 한 벽은 유리로 대체했고 지하 수영장에서도 웅장한 전경을 감상할 수 있도록 창우물을 설치했다. 지하 2층의 바위는 집을 지탱하고 주택의 모든 공간을 통합한다.
