The new building in northern Madrid replaces its predecessor building in the city centre. With its special educational program and evening theatre performances and concerts, the German School Madrid is an important site for cultural exchange. In this large complex, the school’s diverse areas of use are legible as clearly defined units.
The individual buildings ? the kindergarten, the primary school and the secondary school ? each frame an inner courtyard. All patios open up to the surrounding landscape and a vista of the snow-covered mountains.
Reflecting both the requirements of the architectural brief and the topography of the site, the buildings develop differentiated spatial situations, yet all components unite into an organic ensemble with strong sculptural presence. The common areas ? the “foyer courtyards”, the cafeteria, a concert hall/ auditorium with 750 seats and the sports hall ? connect the individual school buildings.
All children meet in the foyer courtyards before dispersing in their individual school buildings. Here the sculptural strength of the polygonal skylights creates a captivating play of light, providing the pupils with valuable shade. School buildings play a key role in conveying both building culture and sustainability.
A return to traditional simplicity, while demonstrating innovative technological sophistication influences the design approach, it’s construction and building services. The implementation of ancient wisdom, such as natural cooling through a subterranean thermal maze, will ensure the building’s sustainable operation.
A school is more than a matrix of classrooms; it is the centre of the students’ living environment and shape their understanding of both the built and natural worlds as well as their sociocultural experience. The spatial compositions and visual connections within the school promote a sense of group identification and intercultural exchange in order to carry on the tradition and success of the German School.
마드리드 독일 학교
스페인 마드리드 북부 중심에 위치해 있던 기존 건물을 대신해서 새로운 건물이 세워졌다. 특별한 교육 프로그램과 저녁 공연, 콘서트와 함께 마드리드 독일 학교는 문화 교류를 위한 중요한 장소이다. 여기 커다란 단지 내 다양한 학교의 유용한 구역들은 분명히 구별되는 단위로 또렷하게 알아 볼 수 있다. 개별 건물들(유치원, 초등학교, 중학교)은 각각의 실내 중정을 가지고 있다. 모든 파티오들은 주변을 둘러싸는 조경들과 눈으로 덮인 산의 경치를 항해 열려 있다.
각각의 건축적 요구사항과 대지의 형상을 반영하고 있는 건물들은 차별화된 공간적 상황을 만들어 내지만 모든 요소들은 강력한 조각적인 형상과 함께 유기적인 앙상블 속으로 통합된다. 공공 공간인 로비 중정, 카페, 750석 규모의 콘서트 홀, 강당, 스포츠 홀은 각각의 학교 건물들을 연결한다. 모든 아이들은 각 학교 건물로 흩어지기 전에 로비 중정에서 만나게 된다.
여기 다각형 모양의 천창이 만들어 내는 형상학적 모습은 다채로운 빛의 모습을 만들어 내기도 하며 학생들에게 귀중한 그늘을 만들어 준다. 학교 건물들은 건물들 사이의 문화와 지속 가능성을 전파하는데 중요한 역할을 한다. 건축설계 과정에서 획기적인 과학 기술이 적용되었지만 전통적인 단순함으로의 회기가 시공과 건물 서비스 부분에서 실현되었다.
지하 미로를 통한 자연적인 냉각과 같은 고대 방식의 실현은 건물의 지속가능한 운영을 더욱 확고히 해줄 것이다. 학교는 단순히 교실을 모아 놓은 것이 아니다. 학교는 학생들의 생활 환경이자 세워진 세계와 자연적인 세계에 대한 학생들이 이해하는 모습, 그리고 학생들의 사회 문화적인 경험의 중심이다. 학교 내의 공간적 구성과 시각적인 연결은 독일인 학교의 성공과 전통을 계승하기 위한 유대감 형성과 문화 교류를 위해 노력하고 있다.
