ANNZ NEST

ANNZ NEST means “a nest, where ants live”, and was named by combining the client’s surname ‘An’ and ‘Ants’. Following the client’s ambitions, we planned for it to be a practical and functional building in which the residents can live a diligent and healthy life as an organic community like that of ants.

ANNZ NEST faces the roadside of the Galmae district apartment complex block in the city of Guri. Due to redevelopment, the areas surrounding the site are all composed of newly constructed commercial/residential buildings, making it unable to see the historical and regional characteristics.

However, the elevations of most of the buildings in the commercial/residential block, which are closely packed, consisted of three to five different kinds of materials. When you looked at the entire block as a single elevation, it was somewhat complicated and disorderly. This building, which stands behind a bus station used frequently by the residents, has a simple yet witty elevation and form using minimal materials, intending to give pleasure to residents.

The plan places a ‘house’ on top of two types of materials and boxes so that the complex space program, which is composed of two programs of different characteristics, commercial and residential, would be revealed in the building’s form. In the interior plan, skip floors were used to create height for the commercial space and to secure privacy among the households. For the residential space of the owner, which is on the fourth floor and attic, small yards were placed on each floor to provide a sense of spaciousness, like that of a house.

상가주택 ANNZ NEST

ANNZ NEST는 건축주의 성(姓)‘ 안’과‘ Ants(개미)’를 결합해“ 개미들이 사는 둥지(Nest)”라는 의미로 명명되었다. 건축주의 바람처럼, 입주민들이 개미처럼 하나의 유기적 공동체로 근면하고 건강한 생활을 영위할 수 있는 실용적이며 기능적인 건축으로 계획하고자 하였다. ANNZ NEST는 구리시 갈매지구 공동주택단지 블록의 대로변에 면해 있다.

재개발로 인해 대지 주변은 모두 신축 상가주택으로 구성되어 기존의 역사적, 지역적 특성이 나타나 있지 않았다. 다만, 촘촘히 들어선 상가주택 블록 내 대부분 건물들의 입면이 적게는 3가지에서 많게는 5가지의 재료로 구성돼 있었다. 전체 블록을 하나의 입면으로 보았을 때 다소 복잡하고 무질서한 모습이었다. 거주민들이 주로 이용하는 버스정류장을 앞에 둔 이 건물은 최소한의 재료로 단순하지만 위트 있는 입면과 조형으로 거주민들에게 즐거움을 주고자 하였다.

상가와 주택, 두 가지 성격이 다른 프로그램을 가진 복합적 공간프로그램이 건물의 형태에서 드러날 수 있도록 두 가지 재료와 박스 위에 ‘집’이 얹혀진 형태로 계획하였다. 내부계획에서는 스킵플로어를 활용하여 상가의 층고 확보와 각 세대 간의 프라이버시를 확보하였다. 4층과 다락으로 구성된 주인세대에는 각층에 작은 마당을 두어 단독주택과 같은 공간의 여유로움을 주고자 하였다.
