The fact that the client is a married architect couple makes more special and variable architecture possible through intense discussion of simplifying and emptying process and simultaneously solving desires and much more various elements of architectural space. The 52LOT project is the very first project worked together as a couple, is hoped to be a turning point as well as a coexisting complex functional space.

Pursue simplicity and continuity when it came to material use and added a number of design elements and spaces but kept details simple to not to do it too much. The spaces are to be used as multi-functional space used for office, workspace, exhibition space and etc. on the basement floor, the first floor is a café, the second floor is the architecture office and third, fourth-floor look alike residential space but to be used for party, cooking class, conference room and etc.

The site is situated adjacent to a frontal road and a sports park on the east side, ordinary residential houses on north and south side across the road, and undeveloped low-rise houses on west side of the site. The land itself is sloped but flattened with retaining walls. As north and south sides are blocked by multiplex houses, therefore it is planned to be open on the east side toward the sports park. The basement used the lower level of the street on the north side next to retaining wall by partially demolish retaining wall. The four different levels of basement floor, street level, first floor, entrance level forms skip floor which gives various access circulation.

If the basement floor to the first floor was connected with a spiral stair, the second floor to the third floor was given clear access with the straight stair, and attempted spatial efficiency with spiral stair from the third floor and up. Different sequences have been constructed per floor to dramatically draw in the sports park in the city.

The sports park seen through the openable door on the first-floor gives an expectation of ‘how would the scenery look like on upstairs’, but rather give tension as the views are restricted with small and narrow windows on the second floor. However, tension is resolved with a bigger window on the third floor and create catharsis by the overwhelming view of the curtain wall opened to the attics on the fourth floor. Every floor is designed with minimum partition walls to achieve flexible open space as one big space that brings in more outer space with additional exterior space.

The main entrance on the first floor even reduced commercial space to secure the resting deck area, and a small balcony facing the sports park on the second floor. The third-floor rooftop naturally formed due to right to sunlight, gained maximum space through the tilted wall of the second floor which develop a rooftop to enjoy city view on the west side. If the sports park on the east side was dragged in through the curtain wall on the fourth floor, a small cornered balcony provides the west side city view to experience the romance of the city.

오이랏

건축주가 건축사 부부라는 점은 건축공간에 더욱 다양한 요소와 욕망을 풀어냄과 동시에 덜어내고 비우는 과정의 치열한 토론을 통해 좀더 특별하고 가변적인 건축이 가능하다 생각된다. 부부가 함께 진행한 첫 프로젝트로 오이랏은 복합적인 용도가 공존하는 공간이자 인생의 터닝포인트가 될 건축물이 되기를 희망한다. 다양한 공간과 디자인 요소를 넣되 과하지 않도록 디테일, 재료의 사용에 있어 간결함과 통일성을 추구했다. 지하층은 사무공간, 작업공간, 전시공간 등 다목적 공간으로, 1층은 카페, 2층은 설계사무실, 3, 4층은 주거의 형태를 포함하되 파티나 요리강습, 회의실 등으로 활용할 계획이다. 대지는 동측으로 전면도로와 체육공원을 접하고 있고 도로변을 따라 남북으로 특징 없는 다가구주택, 서측은 아직 개발되지 않은 저층 주거지 사이에 위치한다.

대지 자체가 경사지이나 옹벽으로 평탄하게 되어 있었다. 남북측이 모두 다가구주택으로 막힌 상태, 따라서 동측 체육공원을 향해 전면이 개방되도록 계획이 되었다. 옹벽과 면한 북측 골목은 레벨이 낮아 일부 옹벽을 철거하고 골목 레벨을 이용한 지하층을 계획하였다. 지하층, 골목레벨, 1층, 진입레벨, 이렇게 4개의 레벨이 스킵 형태로 구성되며 접근 동선의 다양성을 준다. 지하와 1층까지는 돌음계단을 이용해 4개 레벨을 연결시켰다면, 2, 3층까지는 직선계단으로 명확한 접근성을 부여하고, 3층부터는 다시 돌음계단으로 공간효율을 꾀하였다. 대지가 위치한 도심 속 체육공원을 극적으로 끌어들이기 위해 층별 시퀀스를 다르게 구성하였다.

1층 전면 오픈 되는 문을 통해 보이는 체육공원은‘ 위층으로 올라가면 어떤 풍경이 보일까’하는 기대감을 가지게 만들지만, 2층에 오르면 오히려 작고 긴 창으로 한정된 뷰를 보여주며 긴장감을 안겨준다. 하지만 3층으로 올라 조금 커진 창에서 해소된 긴장감은 4층에 올라서면서 다락까지 오픈 된 커튼월이 마주하는 압도적인 뷰에 카타르시스를 느끼게 한다. 모든 층이 내부 파티션을 최대한 없애고 하나의 공간으로서 가변적인 역할을 해낼 수 있도록 오픈스페이스로 구성하여 외부를 더 많이 끌어들일 수 있도록 하고 거기에 더해 외부를 접할 수 있는 공간을 마련하였다. 1층 주출입구는 상업공간을 줄이면서까지 충분한 공간을 확보하여 휴게 데크식 구성을 하였고, 2층은 체육공원을 향한 작은 발코니를 마련하였다. 일조권으로 자연스럽게 만들어질 3층 옥상은 2층의 기울어진 벽을 통해 최대한의 공간을 확보해 동측의 자연조망, 서측의 도시 뷰를 맘껏 누릴 수 있는 루프탑을 형성한다. 4층은 커튼월을 통해 동측 체육공원을 끌어들였다면 서측의 도시 뷰를 위해 작은 코너 발코니를 마련하여 도시의 낭만을 느끼는 공간이 만들어졌다.
