Danxia World Heritage Gateway 

The visitor center welcomes to the core scenic spot of the Danxia World Natural Heritage Site in Chishui region, a popular tourist attraction characterized by a unique red rock landscape, created by reddish accumulation of sandstone. Chishui Danxia landform has been recognized World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2010.

The center includes the basic facilities for tourists and is located at the very entrance of the scenic area, in a V-shaped canyon, 6m width at its narrowest point. The valley is surrounded by a stunning landscape: bright red cliffs, peaks and streams on the North and a red Danxia stone arch-shaped cave facing West. The natural cave introduces visitors to the spectacular Danxia landscape, where locals used to offer sacrifices to heaven and earth and worship Buddha. The system of steps and the building shape aim to highlight the ritual importance of the site.

The building on the southern side is composed by a group of seven little stone boxes, which are characterized by a rainwater collecting system, light capture system and tree courtyards. The seven small stone boxes (four are 14.3m2 and three are 37m2) include facilities like tourist reception hall, exhibition hall and tea hall, where local spring water is used to prepare the tea. All around the seven stone boxes architects designed a flexible recreational space, corresponding to the different environments (water courtyard, colored light courtyard and tree courtyard). The project aims to abstract the characteristic features of the site, creating a ritual space: the forest is symbolized by a dense assembly of stone pillars, while the relationship with water is brought in the project by a rainwater collection system. The water flows into the courtyards’ pools, covered by red and yellow light, through the roof drain gully, and then then pools overflow into the ground bifurcated canal system, to form a set of natural rainwater landscape system.

The building design is sensitive to the characteristics of the landscape and the local red stone makes it completely embedded into the surroundings: the base slope is treated as a continuous folding surface. Materials come from river flooding: the project is located at the base of a mountain, from which the top originates a river. When torrential floods erupt, various sizes of Danxia stones are transported downstream by the river and collected by workers. Danxia stones are sandstones characterized by high-porosity and are extremely easy to cut, perfectly suitable for local traditional mortar masonry works.

츠수이의 단샤세계자연유산 방문자센터 

단샤 세계유산 관문 방문객 센터는 츠수이 지역의 단샤(Danxia) 세계자연유산의 핵심 관광 명소로 관광객을 맞이한다.이 지역은 붉은 사암이 쌓여 만든 독특한 붉은 암석 풍경이 특징인 인기 있는 관광 명소이다. 츠스이 단샤 지형은 2010년 유네스코에 의해 세계자연유산으로 인정되었다.

이 센터는 관광객을 위한 기본 시설을 갖추고 있으며 가장 좁은 지점에서 폭 6m의 V자형 협곡으로 경치 좋은 지역의 입구에 위치해 있다. 계곡은 밝은 붉은 절벽, 북쪽의 봉우리, 개울, 그리고 서쪽을 향한 붉은 단샤 돌 아치 모양의 동굴 등 놀라운 경치로 둘러싸여 있다. 자연동굴은 방문객들에게 지역 주민들이 하늘과 땅에 제사를 지내고 부처를 숭배하던 화려한 단샤 풍경을 소개한다. 계단과 건물 형태는 대지의 의식적 중요성을 강조하기 위한 것이다.

남쪽에 있는 건물은 빗물 저장시스템, 조명 캡쳐 시스템 및 나무 안뜰이 특징인 7개의 작은 공간(Box)으로 구성되어 있다. 7개의 석재 상자 형태의 건물 (4개는 14.3m2, 3개는 37m2)에는 관광 안내소, 전시장 및 티홀과 같은 시설이 있으며, 샘물은 차를 준비하는데 사용된다. 건축가는 7개의 공간 주변에 다양한 환경(수성 안뜰, 유색 조명 안뜰 및 나무 안뜰)에 해당하는 유연한 레크리에이션 공간을 설계했다. 이 프로젝트는 대지의 특징적인 특징을 추상화하여 의식적인 공간을 만드는 것을 목표로 한다. 숲은 조밀한 석조 기중으로 상징되는 반면, 물과의 관계는 빗물 저장 시스템에 의해 프로젝트에 도입된다. 물은 지붕 배수구를 통해 빨갛고 노란 빛으로 덮인 안뜰의 연못으로 흘러 들어 갔다가, 그 다음에는 연못에서 분기된 운하 시스템으로 흘러와 자연적인 빗물 풍경을 형성한다.

건축적 디자인은 풍경의 특징에 민감하며 국부적인 붉은 돌은 주변 환경에 건축물이 완전히 스며들게 한다. 기본 경사면은 연속적인 접힌 표면으로 취급된다. 이 프로젝트는 산의 기슭에 위치해 있는데, 꼭대기에 있는 강을 기점으로 한다. 집중적인 홍수기에는, 다양한 크기의 단샤 돌들이 강을 따라 하류로 운반되어 일꾼들에 의해 수집된다. 단샤 돌은 중도가 높은 사암으로 매우 쉽게 절단할 수 있어 현지 전통 벽돌 제작에 매우 적절하다.
