Chuncheon Dream Church is a neighborhood friendly and modern church built next to Mancheoncheon. As the area around the church is concentrated with elementary, middle and high schools as well as universities, there are many children and young adults. Since Chuncheon Dream Church was established with the goal of serving and educating children and young adults, the location of the church is one that is suitable for the church’s founding purpose. Those taking a walk and passing by the church would not see it as a church without seeing the cross hidden in the front. Excluding the religiosity shown in the building, it is an external appearance that allows anyone to enter the church without tension or pressure. The choice of a cross lit up by ambient lighting without the tall cross steeple, which can be seen as the symbol of existing churches, includes the head pastors philosophy that church members should show their faith through their lives rather than just in words.

Three sides of the first floor cafe, which stands out the most when the building is seen from the outside, were finished with glass and designed to have as much openness as possible. On Sundays, the cafe space turns into a restaurant and becomes a space where church members eat together and talk after the service. The seminar room is a comfortable lecture room for local residents who take special courses. Usually, it is an overall open space, but when lectures or seminars are held, the blinds can be drawn and it can be used as an independent space that is separated from the cafe.

There were two things that were considered most important when designing the chapel. The first was to make sure that, unlike the open and friendly atmosphere of the first floor, the second floor is comfortable yet felt as a space of worship as a restrained and solemn space, and the second was making sure that the sound of concentrating during worship does not cause the neighbors any harm. The chapel’s many indirect lighting deepens the solemn atmosphere and religiosity of the chapel. Overall, the walls and ceiling were constructed with acoustic boards, and so it was possible to avoid causing any harm to the house directly behind it.

Since many departments of the church were only used in weekends, each of their office areas were yielded to the cafe and seminar rooms to be used with neighbors. Instead, a common office was arranged on the second floor to allow each department to do various office tasks, and in the corner, a table was prepared to accommodate a small number of people to hold meetings. The wall of the church nursery, which considers parents to be able to lead a religious life while looking after their children, was finished in a pastel light-green color to lessen the fatigue in children’s eyes, and cloud-shaped lights were installed to provoke children’s interest in them. The children’s room on the third floor is a space where children can worship and be active in their own space. Bright colors and lights were used so that everyone knew, as soon as the third floor was reached, that it was the children’s space, and many amenities and play materials were prepared to allow parents to relax and leave their child.

기독교 대한성결교회 춘천드림교회

춘천드림교회는 만천천 옆에 건축된 주변 친화적이고 현대적인 교회다. 교회 인근에는 초중고교와 대학교가 밀집되어 있어, 아이들과 청년들이 많다. 어린이들과 청소년들을 섬기고 교육하겠다는 목적을 가지고 창립됐으니 교회가 위치한 장소는 교회의 창립 목적에 알맞은 장소이다. 산책을 하며 교회 앞을 오가는 사람들은 정면에 숨겨진 십자가를 보지 않고는 교회라고 쉽게 느낄 수가 없다. 건물에 나타나는 종교성을 배제하고 누구라도 긴장감이나 부담감 없이 교회를 들어오게끔 한 외관이다. 기존 교회의 상징이라 할 수 있는 십자가의 높은 첨탑 없이 은은한 조명으로 비춰지는 십자가를 선택한 것도, 교인들이 말로만 신앙을 이야기하지 않고 삶으로 신앙을 나타내야 한다는 담임 목사의 철학이 담겨있다.

외부에서 건물을 바라볼 때 가장 눈에 띄는 1층 카페는 3면을 유리로 마감하여, 최대한 개방감 있는 구조로 설계됐다. 일요일이 되면 카페 공간은 식당으로 바뀌어 예배를 마친 교인들이 함께 식사를 하며 교제하는 공간이 된다. 세미나실은 특별 강좌를 수강하는 지역 주민들에게 안락한 강의실이다. 평소에는 전체적으로 개방된 공간이지만, 강의나 세미나가 이루어질 때는 블라인드를 내려 카페와 분리된 독립적인 공간으로 활용할 수 있다.

예배당을 설계할 때 가장 중요하게 고려한 것은 두 가지다. 첫째는 1층의 개방감 있고 주변 친화적인 분위기와 달리, 절제되고 엄숙한 공간으로 2층에 올라섰을 때 편안하지만 예배의 공간으로 느껴지도록 하는 것이고, 둘째는 이웃 주민들에게 예배 시간에 집중되는 소리에 대한 피해가 가지 않게 하는 것이다. 예배당의 여러 간접 조명은 엄숙한 분위기와 예배당의 종교성을 더욱 짙게 나타낸다. 전체적으로 벽과 천장은 흡음판으로 시공되어, 바로 뒤에 있는 가정집에도 소음으로 피해를 끼치지 않을 수 있었다.

교회의 여러 부서들은 실제 주말에만 사용됨에 따라, 각 사무공간을 이웃 주민들과 함께할 카페와 세미나실에 양보를 했다. 대신, 2층에 공동 사무실을 마련하여 각 부서들이 각종 사무업무를 볼 수 있도록 했고, 한켠에 테이블을 마련하여 소규모의 인원이 회의하기에 불편함이 없도록 했다. 아이들을 돌보며 신앙생활을 할 수 있도록 배려한 자모실 벽은 아이들의 눈에 피로를 덜 주는 파스텔 톤의 연두색으로 계획했고, 아이들이 좋아할 만한 구름 모양의 전등을 달아 흥미를 느낄 수 있도록 했다. 3층의 어린이부실은 어린이들이 그들만의 공간에서 예배하고 활동할 수 있는 공간이다. 올라오자마자 어린이들의 공간임을 알 수 있도록 밝은 색과 조명을 사용했으며, 부모가 안심하고 아이들을 맡길 수 있도록 여러 편의 시설과 놀잇거리를 갖춰 놓았다.
