The project is located in the South Bank Scenic Area of Chongqing City, China.”Nanshanli” in Chinese means “Inside south mountain”. The original site is a old courtyard, which is a few random single buildings at the end of the last century. Chongqing in our impression: the mountains rise and fall steeply, the mountains are foggy, and the bamboo forests are surrounded by clusters.

Our inspiration source comes from the outline of mountains, fog, bamboo forests and sky clouds. We will reconstruct the outline between nature and the buildings. The material and form are between the buildings and nature, give the mountain a new level and give the buildings a more natural experience. The fog in the forest, we hope that this unique landscape can be viewed from every perspective of the architectural space.

The relationship between the buildings and nature is symbiotic, so the materials we used and space experience are as simple as possible, original ecological. In building materials, we try to use local dry bamboo and brick, showing the effect of white walls, glass, plants, it is part of the mountains, rather than the miniature steel city in the jungle. In terms of space experience and lifestyle, it will also be presented as primitive as possible in the village state.

Because the original buildings are different in height, angle, and relationship between front and back, which is a combination of their own affairs, without overall coherence, the actual use and space feeling are greatly limited. So in addition to sorting out the spatial relationship of each space, our renovation action mainly focuses on “Adding an outdoor corridor” to connect all buildings and users from the function. Starting from the lobby, you can get to any position of the building without any stairs, and shuttle freely between buildings and tree tops. From the sense of experience, the boundary between the vegetation surrounding the building or the vegetation surrounding the building is blurred, and the architectural language and the natural landscape can be better integrated.

All the trees here are preserved and the buildings are the result of reconstruction on the basis of the original buildings. So, in many places, we can only let the buildings “Walk around the trees” in order not to destroy the original vegetation, although it adds great difficulty to our work. But the texture of the remaining vegetation can not be imitated. We hope that there will be some small scenery in every corner of the public space, so that people walking in the space can see little surprises everywhere.

남산 안, 리노베이션 호텔

산의 윤곽 중국 충칭시 남산은 풍경이 아름다운 지역이다. 중국어로 “난산리”는 “남산 안에서”라는 의미다. 건축가가 처음 대지를 방문한 당시, 오래된 안뜰 같은 공간에 지난 세기 말의 건물이 시간의 풍파를 맞고 서 있었다. 가파르게 오르내리고, 안개로 가득 찬 산이자 무성한 대나무들로 감춰진 곳이었던 이곳은 건축가의 손길로 지금의 난산리 호텔로 다시 태어났다.

산, 안개, 대나무 숲, 그리고 구름, 모든 자연의 윤곽은 새로 지어진 호텔에 적용됐다. 건축가는 자연과 건물 간의 윤곽을 재정립하기로 했다. 재료, 형태는 건물과 자연 사이에서 만들어지며, 산에는 새로운 층계 공간이 제공됐다. 건물은 이로써 더욱 자연친화적인 경험을 제공하는 곳이 됐다. 특히, 이곳만의 독특한 전망이기도 한 숲속 안개는 호텔 내 모든 공간에서 바라볼 수 있도록 의도됐다.

난산리 호텔은 자연과 공생 관계다. 호텔에 사용된 자재는 공간 안에서 느낄 수 있는 경험이 지연 친화적이고 환경적일 수 있도록 최대한 단순화됐다. 주로 현지의 건조된 대나무와 벽돌이 사용되어 흰색의 벽, 창으로 만들어졌다. 자연도 건축물의 일부로 존재한다. 이렇게 호텔은 단지 산속에 지어진 산업 도시 결과물의 일부가 아닌 산을 둘러싼 자연의 일부로 존재한다. 호텔은 산속 시골에 자리 잡은 원래부터 있었던 건축물처럼 보이기도 한다.

기존 건물은 높이, 각도, 그리고 앞뒤 입면 간의 관계가 제각각이었다. 전체적으로 일관되지 않은 특성들을 한곳에 모아 놓은 것이나 다름없었다. 실제 사용될 공간과 공간적 느낌은 매우 제한된 상황이었다. 린지엔 디자인 스튜디오는 각 공간적 관계를 분류하는 것에 더하여, 모든 건축물과 투숙객의 관계를 확립시키고, 이어지는 동선을 위해 “바깥 풍경을 보며 걸어다닐 수 있는 외부형 복도를 만드는 것”에 초점을 뒀다. 이 복도를 통해 로비에서 호텔의 어떤 공간으로도 이동할 수 있으며, 건물 사이를 돌아다닐 수 있다. 그리고 나무 높이와 비슷한 층고까지 자유롭게 이동할 수 있다. 이러한 경험의 감각은 산의 초목과 그 자연을 감싸는 건축물 혹은 건축물을 감싸는 초목 사이 경계를 흐리게 만들었으며, 건축적 언어와 자연경관은 하나가 됐다.

호텔 건물이 기존 건축물에 기반하여 새롭게 지어진 결과다. 리노베이션 과정 동안 통해 대지 내에 있던 모든 나무는 보존됐다. 호텔은 나무의 위치를 피해가며 계획됐다. 건물은 위에서 바라보면 나무 주변을 둘러싸고 있는 것처럼 보인다. 공공 공간의 모서리나 끄트머리마다 자연을 향해 열린 공간들이 마련되어 있는데, 투숙객들은 이곳을 통해 경이로운 남산의 자연을 호텔 어디서든 바라볼 수 있다.
