Contexts and Conditions
It was planned to build a building for a workroom to display the collections of the client and lodging on a long site of 93 meters long near the road passing from the Yangpyeong to the Hongcheon. The client who is a metal craft artist asked 4 programs to the architect. A small library to store many books, a workroom to keep the collections, a small study room to store private documents, and a prayer room for his wife, he wanted. The challenge was the arrangement of many programs on the long shape site with a small budget.
Program Scattered at a Long Site
The required programs were planned to be arranged as four masses on the long shape land of 93 meters long. It would be unfavorable to put all programs in a building because the exterior space could not be utilized. Each mass of the program was planned to have a different form and space according to the dimension of the program and the site environment. It was planned that the small library, Book Box, has a form of cube, the workroom and the study room have a form of triangle in accordance with the shape of the site and the roads nearby, and the prayer room has a form of heteromorphy. Although this arrangement would be inconvenience than the way of putting all programs in a building, the architect intended for people to experience the shape and space of each program being involved with the entire site. In addition, scattered masses make diverse exterior spaces with the long walls along the road
House of Book and Landscape (Book Box)
The small library, Book Box, will be a space for the client to stay mostly storing the book collections. The client wanted the space to become an area for having a chat when visitors or around 10 acquaintances come. The books are composed with the surrounding landscapes and becoming the main character. Not in the divided room, but with the books the people will sleep and take a bath. Although there is a small room for guests, it will be an extra in this area. Once walking along the open two floors where overlapped books can be seen the book and the landscapes can experience interior and exterior and a sense of place. This journey continues to the rooftop and meets the wider sky.
양평 북박스 맥락과 조건
양평에서 홍천으로 넘어가는 국도변의 93미터나 되는 긴 땅에 건축주의 소장품들을 전시할 작업실 겸 숙소를 계획하고자 했다. 금속공예 예술가인 건축주는 4가지의 프로그램을 요구했다. 많은 서적을 둘 작은 도서관, 소장품을 둘 작업실, 사적인 자료들을 보관할 작은 서재, 그리고 와이프의 공간이 될 작은 기도실을 원했다. 적은 예산에 긴 부지에 여러 프로그램을 배치하는 것이 이 프로젝트의 질문이 되었다.
긴 땅에 흩어진 프로그램
요구한 프로그램은 93미터의 긴 땅에 4개의 매스로 흩어진 배치로 계획했다. 하나의 건물에 모든 프로그램을 넣기에는 긴 외부공간의 활용에서 불리한 결과가 된다. 각 프로그램의 매스는 프로그램의 규모와 필지의 환경에 맞게 형태와 공간을 각각 다르게 계획했다. 작은 도서관인 Book Box는 2층의 정육면체의 형태로, 작업실과 서재는 필지 모양과 도로 선형을 따르는 삼각형의 형태로, 작은 기도실도 이형의 형태로 계획했다. 한 건물 내에 계획하는 방법보다 사용의 불편함은 있지만 우리는 전체 대지와 엮기면서 프로그램 각각의 형태와 공간을 경험하게 끔 의도했다. 더불어 흩어진 매스는 도로변을 따라 계획된 긴 벽과 함께 다양한 외부공간을 만들게 된다.
책과 풍경의 집(Book Box)
작은 도서관인 Book Box는 소장한 책을 보관하면서 주로 건축주가 머무는 공간이 된다. 손님이 오거나 10명 정도의 지인들이 가끔 모여 편하게 담소를 나누는 장소이기를 원했다. 책은 주변풍경과 함께 구성되면서 이공간의 주인공이 된다. 사람은 구획된 실에서가 아니라 책과 어울리면서 잠을 자고 목욕을 하게 된다. 손님을 위한 조그마한 방은 있지만 이 장소에서는 엑스트라가 된다. 책과 책이 겹쳐 보이고 오픈된 2개층을 따라 걷다보면 책과 풍경이 내외부 경험과 함께 책의 장소성을 체험하게 된다. 이 여정은 옥상으로 이어지면서 더 넓은 하늘과 만나게 되어 있다.
