The site is located in the middle of a quiet rural area. This land was originally an apple orchard and contains an apple storage warehouse which was located at a slightly higher than the surrounding area giving the impression that it functioned as an observation deck. The owner left a long life in Seoul and came back to his hometown. He changed the entire site, which used to be the apple orchard, into cultivated farmland and he choose the site of the storage warehouse as a place to build a house.  The house naturally was placed in the northwest and the yard was ideally placed in the south with a geographical feature that makes entrance to the site from northeast side possible. The owner requested a spacious yard because he didn’t have a yard living in an apartment. The entrance to the house is from the northeast and this geographical feature makes the movement line from the gate to the porch pass the rear of the building, the yard, and then to the porch. The building consists of a large mass and a small mass. The living room, dining room, kitchen, sub-kitchen, and the utility room are placed in the large mass.

In addition, the rooms, dressing room, and restrooms are arranged so that public and private spaces can be separated. Furthermore, an inner gate was installed in the middle of the hallway and this visually and spatially divided the owner’s private space from the public space for visitors based on the porch. However, these two masses share a yard, so they were designed independently harmonize as one space. The large mass section was designed to be placed closed to the cliff on the site, and would include a living room reflecting the owner’s wish to have a space like an observation deck. The first floor was 0.5m higher than the yard. The stairs were removed and access to the building was made through a ramp from the deck. The house was designed in a single level. The ceiling height of the living room was 2.7m and the ceiling height of the room was 2.4m, which are higher than a general house so this house didn’t look stuffy. The living room, located in the southwest, was designed to eliminate the window in the west and has enough space between the wall and the outer wall so it is cool in the summer. The entire outer wall was double insulated and the aluminum insulation system windows had triple glazing. A window was installed on the opposite side of the entrance from the porch to provide a view of the backyard and the hill far away. Looking through the windows in this house, you see only natural scenery everywhere. Considering the characteristics of the house, which requires many storage spaces, one side of the hallway was planned for storage and a window was installed in the middle of the hallway facing the backyard, which opened the area of the hallway. The outer wall was finished with monocouche in a white tone and copper plate, whose color would change so the building would change little by little as time went by.

대지는 한적한 농촌 시골의 한가운데에 자리잡고 있다. 원래 이 땅은 사과 과수원을 하던 당시 사과 저장 창고가 있던 터로 주변의 땅보다 조금 높은 곳에 있어 인근의 풍경이 한 눈에 들어오는 전망대의 느낌을 주는 곳이다. 건축주는 오랜 서울 생활을 정리하고 귀향하면서 기존의 사과 과수원이었던 전체 부지를 다른 경작을 위한 농지로 변경하고 저장창고가 있던 곳을 선택하여 주택을 신축했다. 북동쪽에서 대지로의 진입이 이루어지게되는 지리적 특성을 가진 여건과 아파트 생활에서 누리지 못했던 넓은 마당을 원하는 건축주의 요구사항이 맞물려 자연스럽게 건물은 북서쪽에, 마당은 남향에 배치하였다. 건물로의 진입은 북동쪽에서 진출입이 이루어지는 대지의 특성으로 대문에서 현관까지의 동선이 건물의 배면을 지나 마당을 통과하여 현관에 이르게 된다.

건물은 큰 매스와 작은 매스 두 개로 구성되는데, 큰 매스에는 거실, 식당, 주방, 보조주방, 다용도실 등을 배치하였고, 작은 매스에는 방, 드레스룸, 화장실 등을 배치하여 공용공간과 개인공간이 분리 될 수 있도록 하였다. 또한, 복도의 중간에 중문을 설치해 현관을 중심으로 방문객을 위한 공용공간과 건축주의 프라이버시를 고려했다. 또, 두 매스가 하나의 마당을 공유하여 독립적이면서도 하나의 공간으로 조화를 이루도록 계획하였다. 큰 매스부분은 전망대 같은 공간을 원하던 건축주의 의견을 반영하여 거실을 계획했는데, 대지의 낭떠러지 가까이 배치했다. 1층 바닥은 마당보다 0.5m 높게 단차를 두었으며 계단을 없애 데크의 램프를 통해 자연스럽게 건물로 진입 할 수 있도록 하였다. 단층으로 계획하면서 거실 부분의 천장고는 2.7m로 방 부분의 천장고는 2.4m로 하여 일반 주거 보다 높게 하여 답답하지 않도록 하였다.

남서향에 배치되어 있는 거실부분은 서쪽에 창을 없애고 벽과 외벽 마감 사이에 공간을 두어 여름에 덥지 않도록 계획하였다. 단열을 고려하여 전체 외벽은 벽을 중심으로 내외부 이중 단열을 하였으며, 창호는 알루미늄 단열 시스템 창호에 3중 유리로 설계하여 패시브 주택이 되도록 했다. 현관을 통해 주택에 들어오면 바로 뒷마당과 멀리 야산이 보이도록 현관 맞은편에 창호를 설치했다. 이 건물 어디에서나 창을 통해 외부를 바라 보았을 때 시야에 들어오는 것은 온통 자연의 풍광이다. 수납 공간이 많이 필요한 주택의 특성을 고려하여 복도의 일면 전체를 수납장으로 계획하였으며 답답한 복도가 될 우려가 있어 복도 중간에 뒷마당이 보이는 창을 냈다. 외벽의 마감은 화이트 톤의 모노쿠시와 시간이 지나면서 색상이 변하는 동판을 사용하여 세월의 변화에 따라 건물도 조금씩 변하는 생명감을 불어 넣었다.
