Unlike the new towns that surround it, Yulhyeon-dong in Gangnamgu, Seoul is a residential neighborhood that has preserved its past. Y-Project breaks down walls, leaving the parking space open, which promotes the coexistence of two or so communities and contributes to the village community. This signifies the new housing prototype of Yulhyeon-dong. Y-Project is an affectionate gift from the parents for their son who needs extra care. This is a group home where about five residents live together. The core staircase, which is connected from the ground floor to the top of the building, is hidden from the front. This is due to the plan that follows the slope of the core stairway to match its levels with Yulhyeon-dong, where the houses have relatively low floor heights.

The softness of the cork material in the multipurpose hall protects the disabled adults from injury. As a finishing material for living space throughout the building, birch plywood, which has a calm texture and color, was used for psychological stability. The highceilinged multipurpose hall continuously transforms. It can be a banquet hall where people share delicious food, or a lecture hall that invites guests. The multipurpose hall has a color temperature of 3000K and 6000K, making it possible to change the lighting according to the program, making it faithful to its function and freely adjusting the atmosphere of the space. The ground floor can be used as a residential space at any time as the outer wall and the walls of facilities such as the washroom and kitchen are structural walls supporting the load, and the inner walls are variable walls. When you go from the high-ceilinged multipurpose hall to the training room, which has low ceilings, gable roofs and sound absorbing panels, you are invited into yet another house where the volume levels change.

To create an open living space while keeping a central corridor on the ground floor, different finishes were used to separate the space. The kitchen floor was finished with tiles and the living room floor was finished with wood, revealing the outline of the space. The ceiling louvers above the central corridor provide order and balance throughout the living room. In accordance with the owner’s desire to maintain a residential layout overall except in the entrance area, walls were set up in the study to create the atmosphere like that of an office. The long, narrow window in the room to the bedroom signifies the love of the parents towards their son. The yellow steel plate used in the core, freely composed along the frame of the stairs, is mindful design. The vivid yellow color proposes clear circulation, and the lighting installed under the steel plates acts as a compass for safe ascension and descension of the stairs. The arrangement of carefree yellow contrasting with the heavy charcoal gray makes the space feel more dramatic and rhythmic compared to the living room with its birch finish. This gives a bold and outspoken impression throughout the entire house.

Y 프로젝트

서울시 강남구 율현동은 신도시가 펼쳐진 주변과 달리 과거의 모습을 간직한 주거 동네이다. Y-Project는 담을 허물고 주차장을 열어 두어 공동체의 공존을 도모하고 마을 커뮤니티에 기여한다. 이는 율현동 동네의 새로운 주거 프로토 타입으로의 의미를 지닌다. Y-Project는 조금 더 특별한 케어가 필요한 거주인을 위한 부모의 애정 어린 선물이다. 이곳은 약 5인의 거주인이 함께 동거하며 모여 사는 그룹 홈 형식이다. 건물 아래부터 위까지 하나로 연결되고 있는 코어 계단실은 기존 골목의 컨텍스트 및 보행자의 시각적 부담을 고려해 거대한 몸집과 그 자취를 숨겼다. 층이 비교적 낮은 집들이 모인 율현동과 어깨를 나란히 하려 코어 계단을 그대로 따라 사선으로 계획했기 때문이다. 다목적 홀의 코르크는 푹신한 감촉으로 사용자들을 부상으로부터 보호해주며, 소리의 울림을 막는 흡음판의 역할도 겸한다. 내부공간의 마감재는 심리적 안정감을 고려해 질감과 색채가 편안한 자작 나무 합판 또는 밝은 톤의 색체를 사용하였다.

높은 층고의 다목적 홀은 지속적으로 변신한다. 연회장으로 변해 사람들이 맛있는 음식을 나누기도 하고, 강연장이 되어 사람들을 초대하기도 한다. 다목적 홀은 색 온도 3000K와 6000K로 프로그램 성격에 따라 조명을 달리해 기능에 충실하고 공간의 분위기를 자유롭게 조절한다. 1층은 언제든 원할 때 주거 공간으로 사용할 수 있도록 외벽, 그리고 화장실과 주방 같은 설비 시설은 하중을 지지하는 구조 벽으로, 나머지 내벽은 가변형 벽으로 구성된다. 층고가 제법 높은 다목적 홀에서 층고가 낮고 경사진 박공 지붕에 흡음 패널로 처리된 교육실로 들어서면, 전환되는 볼륨과 함께 또 다른 집으로 초대된다. 1층 중앙 복도를 살리면서 열려 있는 거실 공간을 위해 마감을 다르게 해 공간을 구분했다. 주방 바닥은 타일마감으로, 거실 바닥은 목재로 마감해 공간의 윤곽을 드러냈다. 중앙 복도 위 천장 루버는 거실 전체의 질서와 균형을 잡아 준다.

전체적으로 주거의 레이아웃은 유지하되, 1층 입구만은 주거의 색깔이 나타나지 않았으면 하는 건축주의 바람과 출입에 대한 감시기능을 담아내고자, 서재에 벽과 가구를 일체화한 자작나무 합판 선반 유리벽을 세워 오피스의 분위기를 띠도록 계획했다. 침실 방문에 길고 좁다란 창은 자식을 바라보는 부모의 사랑이다. 코어의 노란 스틸 판은 계단의 프레임을 따라 자유롭게 구성된 배려의 디자인이다. 눈에 잘 띄는 노란색은 명쾌한 동선을 제시하며, 스틸 판 밑에 설치된 조명은 안전하게 계단을 오르내리도록 나침반 역할을 한다. 묵직하게 가라앉은 진회색과 대비되는 노랑의 자유로운 구성은 자작나무로 마감된 거실 공간과 비교해 공간을 한층 더 극적이고 리듬이 느껴지도록 한다. 이는 집 전체에 대담하고 시원스런 인상을 준다.
